“Everything I could ever dream of”: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gets Some of Its Best Legacy Skins Yet, but Is It Too Late?
Rocksteady Studios tries to keep its latest effort alive.
In concept, a DC video game based on the Suicide Squad and created by none other than Rocksteady Studios sounds like a recipe for greatness, but unfortunately, things very quickly went south when Kill the Justice League hit the shelves earlier this year in February.
Before its launch, it sounded like an excellent idea to bring back the developer behind some of the best Batman stories ever told in the form of its iconic Arkham series, but nothing about Task Force X’s latest game seemed to resonate with even die-hard DC fans.
However, in an effort to keep its dwindling player base satisfied to some extent, Rocksteady has brought some amazing legacy skins that fans of the Arkhamverse will most likely appreciate, even if they are not too fond of the game they have been introduced to.
Rocksteady Studios Returns to Arkham With New Suicide Squad Skins
Although Kill the Justice League’s base roster of playable characters seemed quite serviceable for Task Force X fans, the developer had promised an extensive roadmap that its live-service video game was going to follow for the first year after its launch.
SUGGESTED: Ghost of Tsushima 2 and 4 Other Games We Expected to See at PlayStation’s State of Play
Therefore, even if the title’s player count at the time of writing is not anywhere near a thousand players, Rocksteady Studios basically has no choice but to release the content that was planned out for the rest of the year. However, where additions like the Elseworld variant of the Clown Prince of Crime were met with ridicule, Arkhamverse enthusiasts missing the glory days of the developer finally seem to have something worthwhile to check out in Kill the Justice League.
It turns out that as a much-needed throwback relying on players’ feelings of nostalgia, Rocksteady has introduced legacy skins from the Arkham series, ranging from the instantly recognizable Joker to Mr. Freeze as seen in Arkham City.
While these character skins are not that unexpected, with Arkham Knight’s Harley Quinn joining in on the mayhem as well, the inclusion of Deadshot from Origins is perhaps the most interesting, considering that the 2013 prequel was helmed by WB Games Montreal instead of Rocksteady.
Can These Iconic Legacy Skins Save Kill the Justice League at This Point?
It would not be fair to deny the kind of anticipation that followed Kill the Justice League during the days leading up to its release, but more than five months after an underwhelming launch, it does not look like legacy skins will be enough for the game to redeem itself.
SUGGESTED: Skull and Bones is Proving to be the AAAA Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League of this Month
That sentiment is echoed by the community reaction to the skins, as it feels like Rocksteady Studios is now using anything in its arsenal to keep its Suicide Squad title alive for as long as it possibly can.
These Arkham-themed skins were nowhere to be found on the initial roadmap that the developer shared with the fanbase, but at this point, it may already be too late for the game to fight for its survival, as its player count keeps decreasing with each passing day.
Of course, it does not really help Kill the Justice League’s case when the beloved legacy skins come with unjustified price tags, leaving the game’s fate in even more potential trouble than it already was.
