Elden Ring Patch Could Have Changed the Lore as We Know It
Can a chair really change so much about what players think about a certain boss? As long as it's Hidetaka Miyazaki who created that boss, the answer is yes.
Another day, another patch to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. The Japanese studio is known for making adjustments to many details in its games on a regular basis in order to fine-tune the experience on offer for its players.
With Elden Ring’s one and only DLC Shadow of the Erdtree bringing a host of new weapons and story beats to the game, FromSoftware continues to make tweaks in order to create balance in its PvP mode while ensuring its PvE players get the best out of their gear and weapons.
Elden Ring’s Open World Continues to Enthrall Players
FromSoftware – and by extension director Hidetaka Miyazaki – is known for hiding the tiniest of details in its environments that could add layers of nuance to a location or character. There’s a definite reason that so many of their games have inspired several content creators to create deep dives into the lore behind such characters and places, with speculating on how and why they influence the game’s narrative forming a major part of their work.

The latest Elden Ring patch might have added another detail to fuel the conversation around Rellana Twin Moon Knight, a boss in Shadow of the Erdtree’s Castle Ensis. The addition of a single chair to her boss arena has fueled some speculation about its significance to her story considering her connections to the Carian Royal Family and her sister, Rennala, one of the main bosses in the base game.
A Story of Tragedy or a Simple Oversight?
The chair in question seems very similar to the ones players find at the end of Caria Manor in the base game. While most players would not notice them on account of the boss they have to face once they get there, the presence of multiple chairs in Caria Manor while Rellana’s room has only a single chair has players wondering if Miyazaki is up to his usual mysterious ways.

Responses to the post below from a curious player range from speculative to downright hilarious, with many players feeling that the chair may just be a random addition meant to fuel speculation.
While the player in question does have a point about Rellana being too big to realistically fit in the chair, another player’s response to the post might hold some details about its significance considering Rellana left her old life behind in order to join Messmer’s crusade against the Hornsent.
However, other players have chosen to take a more light-hearted stance on the new addition, using the chair to emphasize what a hard time Rellana gave players when they first encountered her.
Other players are hoping that the boss gets an intro cutscene added in at some point, with hopes that Rellana gets the same treatment as Lady Maria from Bloodborne, another FromSoftware classic.
It’s a testament to Miyazaki’s talent that a simple addition to one location could fuel so much debate about its significance.
Players would hope that the legendary director’s next project continues in the same vein – and perhaps adds a table to a location as a callback to this chair.
