Elden Ring Includes a Connection to Dark Souls 3 That Continues Through to Shadow of the Erdtree
It's time to explore the connections of the DLC with its predecessors.
The time to return to one of the biggest releases from FromSoftware is almost knocking at the door. Elden Ring, undoubtedly, has set a standard for the FromSoftware games, and the recent preview of Shadow of the Erdtree clearly reveals that it is going to take it to a new height. The gameplay of the DLC has assured players that it will take them to a world full of new locations, challenges, and bosses.
The Land of Shadow differs from The Lands Between in several aspects. While the locations, storyline, bosses, weapons, etc. are all newly designed for the DLC, Hidetaka Miyazaki can’t restrict himself from bringing back one feature in the DLC that has been a part of FromSoftware games since Dark Souls 3.
Over the Years, Hidetaka Miyazaki Kept Adding Specific Features to All His Games to Establish a Connection
When Elden Ring was released, it spun the gaming world upside down with its visuals, gameplay, storylines, and, most importantly, massive open world, which players can explore without any barrier. Players could hardly count the resources they have found throughout the journey, but veterans of the franchise might have noticed some similar structures and aspects that they have seen in the Dark Souls series.
Precisely, we are talking about the Ghostly Gravestones. Among several other older features that Elden Ring received from other Dark Souls games, the Ghostly Gravestones are the most noticeable ones. Initially, they were planned to be introduced in Dark Souls 3, in God’s Grave. Well, this was an area that was cut off from the final game, but most probably, it was the name of the area where players fought Oceiros.
Later, they made their way to one of the expansions of Dark Souls 3, named The Ringed City. These Ghostly Gravestones were used in the opening location of the expansion. Last players noticed them was in Elden Ring’s Leonine Misbegotten’s boss arena in Castle Morne. Attentive players must remember seeing the Ghostly Gravestone there.
The latest preview of Shadow of the Erdtree revealed that Miyazaki has no plans to stop with this Ghostly Gravestone tradition. So, again, players will find these Ghostly Gravestones in the expansion of Elden Ring, named Shadow of the Erdtree. However, the locations and use of the gravestone in the DLC are still unknown, and players must wait until June 21 to know its significance.
Hidetaka Miyazaki Showed the Height of His Creative Mind in Designing the World and Weapons of Shadow of the Erdtree
Maintaining the tradition of Elden Ring, the DLC brings more than 100 weapons for the players. But among them, one is soon going to surpass others in popularity; at least the recent preview hints at that. Surprisingly, this weapon was designed like one of the most renowned axes in the gaming world.
If you have played the Shadow of the Erdtree preview, you must have guessed it. Yeah, we are talking about the Heavy Smithscript Axe. Initially, players can use it as a regular melee weapon to deal with enemies, but at times, they can throw the axe at the enemies from a distance, as Kratos does in the God of War games. Like the Leviathan Axe, this Heavy Smithscript Axe will return to players after hitting their enemies.
Most importantly, this weapon doesn’t need any resources attached to it to be used. So, this weapon will be a great choice to fight enemies in close-range and mid-range battles. Players are even assuming this axe is going to be one of the unbeatable weapons in the upcoming DLC.
Well, whether the axe will really do some miracles or not should be revealed after the final version of the expansion releases. Until then, stay updated with all the latest gaming news and check out the new face potentially joining Mortal Kombat 1. The game might add a scary killer character to the roster.
