Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is finally announced. After an official announcement, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have been entirely silent for the entire time. No assumption or prediction touched them this complete time. However, they released the official trailer a few days back which features a thrilling storyline and a new potent enemy, Messmer the Impaler. Elden Ring is widely renowned for its characterization and how they are well-knitted to the storyline.

Players may get confused about Messmer as he is a character that no one has ever seen in the main story of the game. Precisely, the main Elden Ring game has no mention of Messmer, but he is a familiar enemy and on Reddit, players have been trying to analyze his introduction and significance in the story.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erd Tree DLC- Introduction of Messmer is Creating Wave of Curiosity and Assumptions Among Fans

If someone really goes through the Shadow of the Erdtree official trailer, it is enough to mesmerize players and give them a clear idea of what they are going to receive. As players have assumed that the DLC will continue shedding light on the story of Miquella, and elaborate on the concept of the Empyreans, the Outer Gods, and The Golden Order, the trailer has matched their prediction entirely. However, they are confused about the primary enemy of the game, Messmer the Impaler.

On Reddit, players have been discussing this enemy, and on the Elden Ring subreddit, ThatStinkyBear12 revealed his thoughts on Messmer after watching the trailer. According to him, Messmer is planning something big to shake the entire Lands Between. So, he is guessing that no matter which Elden Lord ending you have taken before the DLC, the Messmer Storyline will be the same. With an elaboration, he stated, “Messmer would probably inevitably attack your Elden Lord after the events of the game, and since we didn’t even know he existed you would be completely unprepared.”

At the same time, he again reveals that Messmer is probably a familiar enemy who has defeated your character and destroyed the Erdtree after the previous playthrough. In the comment section of the post, another fan revealed that according to him, despite having the grace, the base story shows that players have given up on it. Messmer is the executioner for those who have lost grace and gold.  So, no matter where you have reached, to Messmer, players are someone who should be executed.

SUGGESTED: GTA 6 to Reportedly See the Return of One Classic Franchise Feature

This is hard to tell what is the purpose of introducing Messmer in the DLC or where the developers are planning to take the story.

What Does Messmer’s Words in the Trailer Signify?

Shadow of the Erdtree: Messmer

Once you go through the trailer, you must have heard the dialogue that says, “Mother, wouldst thou truly Lordship sanction, in one so bereft of light?” This can be assumed as the dialogue of Messmer, and this clearly tells his connection to The Golden Order. However, the significance of the ‘Mother’ is still unclear. The dialogue is probably indicating Tarnished or Mohg who tried to become king consorts to incline the status of Miquella. However, we are not sure of the mother of Messmer. It can be Marika, or someone else, who hasn’t yet been properly introduced to the base story of Elden Ring.

Though the DLC doesn’t shed light on Messmer’s origin, he is probably not entirely related to Miquella. Instead, he may be directly connected to The Greater Will and The Golden Lineage. Therefore, he can be part of the lineage that stems from Radagon and Marika.

However, everything is an assumption, until the DLC releases on June 20, 2024.
