Dragon Ball fans have much to look forward to with the next Budokai Tenkaichi, and the trailers have solidified that fact. Not only is the concept of each trailer following a theme genius, but it’s also a great way to reveal the characters and storylines that’ll be in Sparking Zero.

There’s plenty of fan service in the Master and Apprentice footage, but the standout aspect is the inclusion of one of the anime’s most tragic stories.

The History of Trunks Took Dragon Ball to Higher Emotional Levels

The Dragon Ball universe has had some iconic stories, but there are a few that reach the emotional heights of The History of Trunks.
Dragon Ball has had some iconic stories, but there are a few that reach the emotional heights of The History of Trunks.

The History of Trunks may not have taken place in Dragon Ball Z and was a TV special, but it included some of its most emotional moments, giving insight into the horrifying Androids.

Set in an alternate timeline where Earth lost nearly all of its defenders, Goku passes away from a heart disease, and the rest of the Z fighters fall victim to Android 17 and 18. It held such weight because death wasn’t really permanent in the series, but since Goku died because of a natural cause, the Dragon Balls couldn’t bring him back, and with Piccolo and Kami’s deaths, their powers became useless.

The fate of this post-apocalyptic Earth rested on Gohan, who trains Trunks to ensure that the planet survives the threat, resulting in their bond becoming stronger. During one battle, Gohan loses an arm, and later, he dies at the hands of the Androids, leading to Trunks reaching his Super Saiyan form. Upon getting repeatedly defeated, Trunks goes back in time to the main Dragon Ball timeline to warn the Z fighters and change the future, but the dystopian world took the series on a dark path.

Sparking Zero’s Trailer Includes One-Armed Gohan, Dystopian Earth, and Future Trunks

Sparking Zero will feature the iconic storyline in all its tragic glory.

Considering the Sparking Zero trailer’s theme, it made sense for Gohan and Trunks’ relationship to be featured in it, and the adaptation looks accurately glorious.

SUGGESTED: Stellar Blade is an Incredible Experience Whilst Rise of the Ronin Languishes, But the Reality Is Very Different Between the Two; and that Stats Prove It

Where the previous games couldn’t include one-armed Gohan due to censorship issues, the upcoming Dragon Ball title is holding nothing back and staying true to the devastating tale.

The dystopian Earth feels authentically destructive, the intensity of the Androids feels like it’s been perfectly recreated, and Trunks’ Super Saiyan transformation hits all the right notes.

With such an iconic storyline in Sparking Zero, it feels like it has the potential to be one of the best Dragon Ball games, as it confirms that the title won’t just focus on the series but also include other stories that made Toriyama’s creation so amazing.
