Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Seems to Have the Highly Requested Feature That Used to Shape the Budokai Tenkaichi Experience Back in the Good Old Days
The OG community will probably appreciate this one.
Dragon Ball used to reign supreme on top of the anime world in the 2000s, and the massive levels of popularity were elevated higher with the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Widely regarded as some of the greatest experiences that the franchise has to offer, there was a lot to love about the fighting games, but one particular feature used to play a major role in the overall enjoyment that fans got from the series.
With Sparking Zero set to bring the old-school spark back using current-gen technology, the feature was thought to be absent from the upcoming title until now.
Split Screen Multiplayer May Actually Be Included in the Upcoming Dragon Ball Game
When the initial details about Sparking Zero started to come out after its reveal at The Game Awards 2023, one rumor that stood out the most was the lack of a split-screen multiplayer mode in the upcoming title. Back in the good old days, a huge part of the charm of the Budokai Tenkaichi series was battling it out with friends while sitting in the same room and playing on just one console.
But with the modern focus of the gaming industry on online matchmaking, it seemed like the new game would feel incomplete without the option of local fights, taking a significant element away from the Dragon Ball titles of the past.
Fortunately, the updated PlayStation Store listing for the fighting game has emerged as a hopeful light, suggesting that the rumors about the split-screen multiplayer absence were not substantial and the feature could actually be included in the title. Moving past the details about the online mode and its PS Plus requirements, the product page now also suggests that “1-2 players” will be able to play the game offline, seemingly confirming the inclusion of the highly requested split screen multiplayer option.
Sparking Zero Is Bringing the Budokai Tenkaichi Roots Back to the Fans
Nostalgia is a powerful tool, and Bandai Namco seems to be aware of that sentiment, as just last week, the publisher launched a brand new trailer that confirmed the return of Fusions in the upcoming fighting game.
Before that, fans have gotten extensive looks at some of the stories that will also be featured in the title, ranging from the ones in the mainline series to iconic tales in the television specials and films.
Adding the split-screen multiplayer option to the ever-growing list of features that will be coming with the game just makes it a spectacular time to be a fan of the franchise.
All the community currently needs is an official release date, and with yet another rumor suggesting that Bandai Namco may reveal it at Summer Game Fest in a couple of days, it seems to be closer than ever.
