Dr Disrespect is a big name in the world of streamers, though his reputation is a little problematic. While his fame is totally for his streaming, he is one of the most disputed characters as well. His past activities have caused loads of scandals and even brought a Twitch ban.
Aside from game streaming, this popular character had made his way to game development with Midnight Society. As a co-founder of the company, he was part of its work on the first vertical extraction shooter game, Deadrop, which had gone through loads of drama and again got a massive hit recently.
Following Dr Disrespect’s Return to Streaming, Midnight Society Bids Goodbye to a Group of Employees
Twitch bans are common, and often, streamers face Twitch bans for violating the rules and regulations. However, the scenario was different with Dr Disrespect; therefore, he suffered more than others. The streamer was accused of chatting improperly with a minor on Twitch. This was the reason behind his ban, as he admitted. However, even the reputation of Deadrop was affected due to this scandal.
After four years of the ban, when the reason came to light, Midnight Society cut ties with the streamer and focused on developing the game. This entire incident happened in June 2024.
Now, it’s been more than two months, and once again, Midnight Society came with a disappointing update of laying off employees. This list even includes members of the Deadrop development team.
Though the studio revealed that it will launch the game in 2025 on its official Discord server, it also announced that the company is planning a “workforce reduction.” Reportedly, it fired around 50% of the team to overcome the challenges on Friday, September 6.
This incident surprisingly happened after Dr Disrespect came back to streaming after the huge backlash he received from fans and streaming platforms. His latest YouTube stream has broken his previous records.
Dr Disrespect Came Back With His Side of the Story After Two Months of the Allegations
After some months of break, Dr Disrespect came back to the internet with a stream on September 6, which has taken down his personal viewership record. On June 25, Dr Disrespect admitted that the allegations were true and he was suspended because of inappropriate messages. It has caused him a YouTube demonetization.
In this stream, the streamer has spoken his side. About the allegations that came to surface back in June, he mentioned that both parties were bound by confidential obligations, but only he maintained those. According to him,
“I respected all the confidential obligations but apparently Twitch’s own disgruntled employees didn’t feel the need to abide by those same obligations.”
A frustrated Dr Disrespect expressed that the matter was settled between him and Twitch; therefore, he didn’t get the point of revealing this thing years later.
He continued expressing his side, saying that he used the Twitch whisper feature, but he didn’t do anything wrong. Also, he said the word “minor” was falsely emphasized.
However, by the time he stopped talking about these issues and started playing games, the viewership suddenly dropped, suggesting that most viewers only came to hear his side of the argument.
