“Deserved a sequel to expand on that ending”: PlayStation Fans Are Back on the Days Gone 2 Train, and It’s Time for Everyone to Admit It Won’t Happen
Will Sony ever listen to its many fans and move forward with a Days Gone sequel? As with Bloodborne, the simple answer would be no.
When Days Gone was released for the PlayStation 4 back in 2019, it immediately captured the attention of players with its unique take on a zombie apocalypse. It soon gained many more fans on account of its explosive narrative with action-packed set-pieces lending an element of urgency to moments of poignant human connections in desperate circumstances.
Deacon St. John’s harrowing search for his wife Sarah, and the many friends he made and lost along the way, helped Days Gone earn its place among the best PlayStation exclusives from Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Fans Now Count the Days Gone Since There Was News of a Sequel
Despite Bend Studio’s imaginative approach to exploration coupled with terrifying and tense encounters, with the Freakers being among the game’s many strengths, it seems that Days Gone may not be renewed for a sequel despite its many fans. While the game did suffer from a few flaws, its popularity among players coupled with the scope for further innovations makes that quite surprising.

It could be argued that a sequel was indeed planned for the game considering the open-ended conclusion in which Deacon, Sarah, Boozer, and other survivors settle at Lost Lake while Sarah’s former colleague James O’Brian warns Deacon that the National Emergency Response Organization (NERO) was coming for them even as Sarah attempted to cure the Freakers. But it seems that Sony and Bend Studio have moved on even if their fans have not.
Holding on to Glimmers of Hope
Days Gone fans have managed to keep their optimism for a sequel alive despite the long silence from Sony Interactive Entertainment, just as their hero Deacon did in the game’s story.

The post below showcases just how much of an impact Days Gone has had among PlayStation fans, with players clamoring for a sequel after its cliffhanger ending.
A few players make very good arguments in favor of a sequel, doubling down on the innovative potential that such a project would bring to the table – which could work very well for Sony’s new approach to console exclusivity.
References to the popular FromSoftware title Bloodborne are particularly important, as it is another PlayStation exclusive that fans have always asked a sequel for even as Sony has remained tight-lipped on such a project. Other fans look back fondly at the many hours they spent with Deacon in Days Gone’s harrowing world.
A current-gen sequel for Days Gone could certainly leverage the power of the PlayStation 5 to deliver a more impactful experience while also including a major graphical overhaul to make the Freakers more terrifying even as Deacon finds powerful weapons and tools to deal with their threat.
It would also give Bend Studio space to resolve Sarah’s personal arc in which she attempt to cure the Freakers altogether.
Alas, it seems like Days Gone is to join many stories that remain untold just because there is nobody willing to tell them.
