2024 has been a year full of twists and turns in the realm of video games, ranging from spectacular AAA titles to indie gems that finally got the attention they truly deserved. Many games released throughout the past eight months have tried to break the mould and implement elements that have never been included in gaming before, which is where Squirrel with a Gun makes its glorious entrance as quite possibly the most unapologetically “unhinged” game of the year.

Some video games just present exactly what their titles promise, and that is precisely what developer Dee Dee Creations’ upcoming effort has in store for both PC, and fortunately, console players.

Squirrel with a Gun Is Officially Coming to Current-Gen Consoles After Its Initial PC Launch

It does not seem like the best idea to mess with a Squirrel with a Gun.

Although the existence of Squirrel with a Gun has been known for quite some time now, the game is finally nearing its initial launch later this week on August 29, but since the release only caters to the PC player base, console players were left wondering if and when they will ever get to experience a potentially unmatched gaming spectacle.

However, publisher Maximum Entertainment has put the current-gen console community’s minds at ease, officially announcing that its upcoming action-adventure title will be making its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S around a month and a half after its PC launch.

Dedicating an entire trailer to accompany the highly requested announcement, the director of the Yakuza-inspired title also provided some more insight into what to expect from the upcoming adventures of “the neighborhood’s most obnoxious rodent.”

From fighting human Agents to setting entire fields on fire, the Squirrel with a Gun is hellbent on doing everything in its power to acquire Golden Acorns, promising an unforgettable sandbox where it causes absolute mayhem all across town. Console players will get to take control of the nutty anti-hero on October 15, adding another anticipated release to a month already stacked with major titles.

The Titular Character Can Make Better Life Decisions and Choose Not to Be a Complete Nuisance

Dee Dee Creations will also let players customize the anti-hero to their liking, so he can wreak havoc in style.

The Squirrel with a Gun console release date trailer also revealed that players do not always have to commit crimes as the titular anti-hero and be nice to the people around it instead, which rewards it with treats and gives it a chance to strike a pose for pictures.

Players can choose to take whatever path they wish with the squirrel, ranging from wreaking havoc to having “wholesome interactions” with the community, such as figuring out where a missing groom is and helping a bride out in the process.

There is so much more that gamers will be able to take part in while playing Squirrel with a Gun, including mini-games like shooting a basketball and trying to get it to go in the hoop, along with others such as a Tony Hawk Pro Skater-esque section at a skate park.

Of course, there is always the option to skip the skate park altogether and run civilians over under the character’s tiny RC car, all of which does not even seem to scratch the surface of what Squirrel with a Gun is truly capable of.
