On the heels of qualifier matches for 2024’s World of Warzone event comes a nerf to one of Call of Duty: Warzone’s most widely used weapons. The DG-58 LSW sees its second nerf in as many updates, with the previous update severely impacting the JAK Nightshade’s damage values.
The JAK Nightshade essentially converted the light machine gun to an assault rifle capable of a significant damage output for players to utilize across vast distances, making it a versatile weapon that could effectively win your squad a battle royale.
When One Call of Duty Weapon Steals the Spotlight
Despite the nerf, the DG-58 LSW proved to be more than a capable weapon, with its ability to control space and its staggering powers more than making up for its diminished long-range capability.
However, Raven Software has decided to balance the scales on this weapon a bit further – a move that can see players scrambling to find suitable replacements in order to stay competitive in the game.
It seems that the DG-58 LSW’s long-range abilities have been further reduced, much to the chagrin of many Warzone players who have built their load-outs around it. It’s something that could move the spotlight to other capable weapons in the game, even as those options seemed limited in the face of a weapon that could do it all.
The Pursuit of Perfect Balance
It’s always a challenge for live service games to keep every one of their players happy. But nerfing the DG-58 LSW seems to be an unpopular decision, with many Call of Duty: Warzone fans taking to their social media channels to voice their displeasure.

It would seem that the weapon’s capabilities worked best in the hands of skilled players, meaning that their proficiency with it came with a lot of time and effort sunk into mastering its eccentricities.
Others showcased the weapon’s reduced long-range damage, once again voicing strong opinions against the recent update’s latest addition to the metaphorical chopping block.
While it remains to be seen if Raven Software is likely to roll back this sudden change to established builds in Call of Duty: Warzone, it is clear that this change is bound to shape things up for World of Warzone, as its competitors now have to substitute the DG-58 with weapons like the MTZ-556 to make up for the former’s lack of long-range damage.
The new update has certainly gained attention, and not in a good way unlike previous updates that focused on player issues, but is perhaps part of a larger roadmap with new weapons to try out later down the line.
