Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Elden Ring Have Met in a Character Mashup You Have to See to Believe
Saul Goodman takes on a new name and a new role in the Lands Between. Maybe LetMe SoloHer could use his help!
With Shadow of the Erdtree finally released for Elden Ring players to enjoy, it is safe to say that FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have cemented the action RPG’s place among gaming’s all-time greats.
The expansion has brought its fans new weapons, bosses, explorable locations, and of course, new lore and story beats for them to talk about for a long time to come. These new additions allow Elden Ring to expand on the scope it offers players to create builds and characters that are unique and distinctive.
The Ultimate Form of Self-Expression
While many have ridiculed the character creators in FromSoftware games in the past (we’re looking at you, Bloodborne), Elden Ring’s detailed and intuitive approach to making a new character allowed players to come up with unique references to people in the real world, or create their favorite characters from other franchises to embody their Tarnished.
What followed was a slew of characters from anime, other games, TV shows, and films the likes of which had never been seen before. A fan of Star Wars recreated the antagonist Darth Maul using the creator and Eleonora’s Poleblade to make a Sith Lord take on the Lands Between, for instance.
Breaking Bad’s Saul Goodman Rises to the Challenge
In one such instance, a Reddit user named luvinha_ managed to bring a bit of Breaking Bad to the game, creating the tenacious lawyer Saul Goodman as the face of their Tarnished. You can view their efforts for yourself below:
Complete with a new name to match his latest new occupation as the potential Lord of the Lands Between, Saul Goodwyn looks ready to bring his own brand of justice to Queen Marika and her family of demigods complete with his own catchphrases and an extensive knowledge of loopholes in the Golden Order’s flawed logic.
It’s an avatar for Saul that fans of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and Elden Ring are all in for. One fan was especially enthusiastic about Saul Goodwyn getting justice for Mohg, whose unfairly gained reputation saw him reviled for more than two years before his name was cleared after events in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Others imagine that Saul Goodwyn could have an easier time with some of the game’s harder bosses.
Other comments included witty references to a certain spell in the game that is required to obtain one of its endings.
It’s evident that this character has a lot of appeal among fans of the TV shows and game with a few players requesting that luvinha_ provide the sliders he used to create Saul Goodwyn.
One can only marvel at how creative gamers can be given the right set of tools to express themselves. And with director Hidetaka Miyazaki seemingly back to work on a new project, it looks like they could get another chance in the not-too-distant future.
