Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat The Unwaking Mind in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape
It's time to take down The Unwaking Mind.
Bosses have been the most challenging parts of the Destiny series from the beginning. The more players progress through the game, the more they will face challenging bosses. Similarly, The Final Shape has brought several powerful enemies who seem to be unbeatable, especially if you are a beginner. The Unwaking Mind is among them.
In Destiny 2: The Final Shape, bosses are mostly parts of quests. The more players progress through the main story and complete quests, the more they will find challenging bosses to beat. So, if you have encountered The Unwaking Mind and haven’t yet figured out how to beat him, this guide will help you with all the required information to take him down faster.
How to Locate The Unwaking Mind in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape
We have already mentioned that most bosses in the game appear as part of some missions, so, naturally, the boss we are going to talk about is not an exception. The Unwaking Mind is part of one of the most interesting missions of the game, named The Ascent. This boss fight will come almost at the end of this mission. The mission takes players on a chilling journey to the past and reveals lots of secrets.
Throughout the mission, Cayde and Crow will accompany you. They will start talking about the Ahamkara. The main objective of the mission is to make your way to the Witness‘ monolith. The journey will be tough, with lots of challenges and obstacles blocking your path, including The Unwaking Mind.

Once you start progressing and overcoming the obstacles in your way, you will eventually reach the location where a Subjugator will block your path. This is a Stasis Subjugator, and if you are playing on the Legendary difficulty, this enemy can kill you instantly with one shot. After this enemy is defeated, the path to the boss arena will open. However, on the way to the boss arena, you have to take down a flying Grim and a few Taken enemies.
Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat The Unwaking Mind in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape
Fighting The Unwaking Mind is not an easy task. The fight is divided into two intense phases, and in the second phase, the boss becomes more aggressive than in the previous one. As soon as you enter the boss arena, players will be greeted by the enemy, and they will almost instantly notice that the health bar of the boss is divided into two sections. Before you jump into attacking the boss, make sure you are aware of the moves of the boss, and for that, first you have to be defensive.
Randomly attacking an enemy without any clue about his attacks is not wise. Being offensive almost without any proper strategy in every case will go against you. So, first, keep some distance, try to understand the moves of the enemy, and plan your strategy accordingly. In the first phase, the fight won’t be tough. Rather, you will probably find it easy initially.
The boss often disappears and teleports to another location. So make sure to watch out for his moves constantly. If you get distracted, he may teleport on you and hit you with his projectile attacks. These attacks deal substantial damage to players.
So, in the first phase of the fight, we suggest not to waste your Super Energy. Instead, use Heavy Ammo, and that’s enough to deal effective damage to the boss. Once the first health bar for the enemy is over, the second phase of the fight begins. In this phase, the boss will eventually become more deadly, with a powerful shield appearing to protect it. Unless the shield is taken down, the boss can’t be defeated. Therefore, breaking the shield should be your priority.
Aside from that, a Volatile Darkness will spawn in the middle, guarded by a Darkness Barrier. Though picking up the Volatile Darkness will solve almost all the difficulties, that’s impossible until you break the barrier. Two Subjugators will also spawn. So, as soon as the second phase of the fight begins, forget about the boss for a few moments and focus on the Darkness Barrier and the Subjugators. These enemies will spawn on two sides of the arena.
Most importantly, these are Strand Subjugators who can kill players with one shot. Therefore, if you are willing to survive the battle, you must dodge their attacks. Once again, let me remind you that using your Super Energy is not a good option. Again, you can fight these enemies based on your Heavy Ammo.

Taking the Subjugators down is a little bit troublesome, but once you accomplish the task, the barrier will break and players can take the Volatile Darkness. Once you have it, throw it at the two blocked doors in front of you. The doors will be unlocked, and players can enter the rooms. The room has a few noticeable things. The first among them is the two Dread Psions with Prismatic shields.
Apart from that, the room also has a few Taken enemies and a Vex Wyvern. First, connect to the Prismatic shields, and then take down the Taken enemies. Once they are dead, start fighting the Vex Wyvern. This enemy will take some time to be defeated. Repeat the process for two doors, and you will notice that, upon defeat, the Wyvern enemies drop symbols.
Check the symbols out and find the matching one on the corners of the boss room. Once you have collected the matching symbols, you are done. The shield of the boss will disappear once again, making him vulnerable to damage. At this point, don’t waste time and use your Super Energy to beat the boss.
That’s everything players need to know about fighting and beating The Unwaking Mind in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape. This fight will take some time and effort. Also, a little guidance is required to determine the steps sequentially, so you can take the boss down faster without much struggle.
If you have been struggling to beat The Unwaking Mind, the same problem can also be faced with the Devoted Acolytes. This is another challenging boss.
