Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
The giant sunflower boss is a tough opponent with a range of attacks to deal with. So, let's figure out the ways that can help players deal with the boss.
As you progress through Shadow of the Erdtree, eventually, you will understand that the vast open world of the game hides loads of secrets, and among them are bosses who can give players Remembrance to acquire weapons or spells. Unfortunately, Scadutree Avatar is among these enemies whom you will miss if you are not careful during your exploration.
This clearly states that the Scadutree Avatar is an optional boss, and the main story of the game won’t lead you to that fight. However, like most other optional bosses, he is also a gigantic boss with unique powers to eliminate players instantly. So, don’t worry if you are struggling. We have prepared a detailed walkthrough of the fight to help you out.
Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
Scadutree Avatar is a terrible and gigantic sunflower entity that is going to give you a harder time than many other bosses in the game. Not only is locating this boss tough, but its attacks are also tricky. So, proper knowledge about the strategy is required before going to the fight. However, we will begin with the location of the enemy.
Where to Find Scadutree Avatar in Shadow of the Erdtree
Scadutree Avatar is located at the base of Shadow Keep. If you’ve been grinding through the expansion, you must have already realized that Shadow Keep is the third and largest legacy dungeon available in Shadow of the Erdtree. To make their way there, players must make their way to Scadu Altus, which will be opened after players have beaten Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, in Castle Ensis.

Once you are in Scadu Altus, make your way to the northern side of the region, where the largest dungeon of the game will be found. Start exploring this dungeon, and eventually you will reach Church District. From there, start moving toward the northeastern side, and you will see an elevator there. Use it to go down, and the boss will be waiting for you. However, remember, the Golden Hippopotamus fight is necessary for accessing this enemy.
Before you enter through the fog gate and start the fight, check out the weaknesses and attacks of the boss to prepare your strategy accordingly.
How to Beat Scadutree Avatar in Shadow of the Erdtree
Like every other boss in the game, Scadutree Avatar has its own set of weaknesses and strengths that players should take care of to get an upper hand on him. This boss is massively weak against Magic and Fire damage. Therefore, weapons and spells that deal these two types of damages should be on your list. The most vulnerable spot of the boss is its head, so players can easily go for ranged weapons to hit his head.
Make sure to have multiple Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes before going to the fight. Getting a substantial boost in your offense and defense will work for you. Additionally, summon a Spirit Ash. Though Mimic Tear and Black Knife Tiche rarely disappoint players, you can still go for Fire Monk Ashes for this fight.
The most interesting, yet challenging, part of this fight is that it has three phases to complete. Each time you land a critical hit on its head, the next phase of the fight will begin with the boss having 25% less health. Fortunately, the boss uses the same attacks during all three phases. However, don’t get too happy. The boss has a range of attacks to launch, but he mostly prefers dealing with physical damage.
The boss welcomes players with the Triple Tree Root attack, where it sends three tree roots toward you to deal damage. Next comes Double Root Swing (a close-range attack where the boss swings its hand 360 degrees) and Head Stomp (whenever you hit the head of the enemy, it will stomp its head on the ground near you). So, again, a close-range attack.

The second set of attacks to watch out for during the fight includes Root Pound (the boss swings its hands towards you to crush you down), 4 Root Pound (here, the boss will smash its root arms towards you four times, the final smash creates an AoE attack), Thrust (the boss will thrust itself toward players), and Head Thrust (the boss will smash its head toward you).
The third and final round of attacks to dodge are Ground Smash (in this attack, the boss launches a series of charged attacks to create AoE damage effects) and Charged Light Explosion (this is a deadly attack where the boss charges up an AoE explosion and shoots out beams of light and deals damage).
However, among them, the most troublesome and damaging attack is the Area of Thorns attack, where the enemy will summon branches that cover a wide area and deal damage to players.
The relaxing part of the entire fight is that players can easily dodge these attacks or roll to the side and avoid getting hit. But if these attacks land successfully on players, elimination is only a couple of steps away. So, run around the arena and maintain your distance from the boss. Wait for opportunities to hit your head. Even though hitting any part of its body deals damage, at the end of every phase, when the boss goes down, land critical hits to drain 25% of its health instantly.
This fight is time-consuming, but if you stick to your strategy and watch out for the boss’ every move, maybe this fight won’t take so many attempts. Anyways, once the boss is dead, it will drop 260,000 Runes, Remembrance of the Shadow Sunflower, and Miquella’s Great Rune as rewards.
As you progress through the game, you will eventually reach the end of the Shadow Keep, where the primary antagonist of the DLC, Messmer, The Impaler, will be waiting to challenge you in a battle. The fight is formidable, so there’s no shame in finding some help.
