Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree

Shadow of the Erdtree has a tiring number of bosses to manage throughout the journey, though the amount is substantially lower than in the base game. Fortunately, like the base game, the expansion has several optional bosses that players can skip fighting if they want to. Anyway, this is not an option when it comes to Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame. Let’s start with his location, and then we will proceed to check his fighting strategies.

Where to Find Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, in Shadow of the Erdtree

Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, is one of the major bosses to encounter in the game, and he appears at the end of Abyssal Woods in the Midra Manse dungeon. Players will probably unanimously agree that Abyssal Woods is the creepiest location to visit in the game. While reaching Abyssal Woods requires lots of effort, making your way to the Midra Manse dungeon is one of the most challenging processes to go through.

On the way to the dungeon, enemies are ready to eliminate you if you take even a single wrong step. However, once you reach the dungeon, enter it through the main gate and hit the painting on the wall. Once the hidden passage is revealed, progress through the passage and use the ladders to make your way to the Second Floor Chamber Site of Grace. Get past the Site of Grace to enter the boss fight arena.

This boss is unique, but if you have already faced Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, and a few other bosses, you may find this fight a bit easier. However, don’t forget to go with the required preparation.

Though the boss is quite simple to deal with, don’t take him lightly. The boss has lots of attacks that can deal a chunk of damage to players if they are not careful during the fight. Moreover, initially, when the fight begins, it will be hard to locate his weaknesses. So, let’s begin with the weakness of the boss to help you choose a suitable weapon. The first thing to note about attacking the enemy is that he is vulnerable to physical damage.

That’s the biggest weakness of the boss, and if you can hit him hard a few times, the enemy will get staggered for seconds, opening an opportunity to land attacks on him. Additionally, bleed damage can drain a chunk of HP. So, you can choose any sword or katana that deals bleeding damage.

The third unique part of this fight that you can take advantage of is the boss’ attention diversion when players summon Spirit Ashes. If you summon a Spirit Ash like Mimic Tear, the enemy will focus on attacking the Spirit Ash, and leave you chances to land some critical hits. So, this fight will be substantially easier if you watch out for the incoming attacks and keep your patience.

When the fight begins, the boss will have three attacks to use in the first phase. The first among them is Midra’s Flame of Frenzy. This is an AoE attack where the boss will start spewing Flames of Frenzy within a wide range. The second attack of this phase is the Spinning Attack, where Midra will spin toward you. He can spin once or twice. Mostly, he spins one time, and the second spin becomes unused.

The final attack of phase 1 is the Triple Attack Combo, where the boss launches three back-to-back swipes. However, fortunately, they are not quick swipes and give players time to avoid them. Roll and run around the arena to avoid these attacks, or you will get massive damage.

Once the boss receives enough damage and the HP of the boss reaches around 40%, the second phase of the fight begins. This time, the boss will have four deadly attacks to tackle. The first among them is the Flames of Frenzy explosion. This is a delayed attack where the boss creates a ball of frenzy, which will explode after a bit, dealing tons of damage.

Try to avoid all the attacks of the boss. Though these attacks are slow, they are powerful enough to eliminate players almost instantly.

Next is the Lunging Strike attack, where the boss leaves a series of frenzied flames behind to deal damage. The third one is the Trail of Frenzy attack. In this attack, the boss covers his sword with Flames of Frenzy and shoots them at you, creating another series of Flames of Frenzy.

The final attack of this phase is the Golden Crux attack, where the boss jumps into the air and slams his sword on you to cut through you. This comes in a combo, where dodging the first attack will allow the boss to have spikes on the ground for the next one. However, rolling to the side based on the boss’s direction will help players avoid all these attacks.

Summon a Spirit Ash to distract the boss. It will allow you to go close to the enemy and land physical hits with heavy weapons. Even without Spirit Ash, you can do it as the boss has slow attacks. This process is time-consuming, but if you can stick to your strategy, the fight is easily doable. Once the boss is dead, you will get Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame. Later, you can exchange it for the Greatsword of Damnation or Midra’s Flame of Frenzy.
