Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
Metyr, Mother of Fingers is a tough quest boss to deal with. So, you need proper weapons and strategy to beat her without getting eliminated.
Elden Ring players won’t be surprised to find a boss fight at every important location in Shadow of the Erdtree. From the beginning of the DLC, players must have faced lots of bosses, though not all of them are mandatory to fight. However, these optional bosses are sometimes tougher than the major world bosses, and the Metyr, Mother of Fingers fight will prove this fact once again.
Metyr, Mother of Fingers, is kind of an optional boss whom players can skip if they want, but the most important part is that she is a hidden boss in the game. By the time you find her, you must have tackled a few powerful bosses, but still, she is going to give you a hard time beating her. Don’t worry if you are stuck. We have prepared this guide to give you all the necessary information about the fight.
Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
Boss fights are one of the main attractions of Shadow of the Erdtree. Irrespective of the challenges they pose or times of getting eliminated, players generally find these boss fights the best part of these games. They make the journey thrilling and more adventurous. Like Elden Ring, the expansion has brought numerous powerful bosses to take down, but before that, players must first know their locations.
Where to Find Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Shadow of the Erdtree
Metyr, Mother of Fingers, is one of the optional enemies in Shadow of the Erdtree whom players can find once they start progressing through Count Ymir’s questline. Once you have made your way to Scadu Altus, start exploring the region, and eventually, you will locate the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. This is where you will meet Count Ymir, and interacting with him will begin his questline, where he requires players to run through different Finger Ruins scattered on the map.

While completing his quests and running through ruins marked on the map he has given, players will come across the Finger Ruins of Miyr, almost toward the end of the questline. This location will be found below the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. To reach this Finger Ruin, players need to ring the bells at the two other Finger Ruins and return to the Cathedral. Next, interact with the throne to go to the battle arena, where the boss is waiting for you.
Despite being an optional boss, this fight is divided into two phases, and the second phase seems to be more challenging than the previous one. So, get prepared with the proper weapons and equipment to go to the fight.
How to Beat Metyr, Mother of Fingers, in Shadow of the Erdtree
Initially, when we face a Shadow of the Erdtree boss, it seems that the enemy has no weak point to take advantage of. Well, that’s never been the case, as all of them come with weaknesses that players need to figure out. For example, Metyr, Mother of Fingers, is weak to bleed damage. The more you can make her bleed, the more this fight will become easier. So, the best weapon we can suggest for this fight is the River of Blood katana. Of course, you can bring any weapon you find suitable that deals bleed damage.
Before going toward the attacks of the boss, another thing must be noted in both phases: most of her attacks can’t be parried. So, we recommend not wasting time trying to parry them; instead, use Messmer Soldier Shield to block the attack to some extent. Additionally, like most other times, you can summon Spirit Ashes to help you in the fight. As always, we recommend going with Mimic Tear. It will give you an extra hand to deal an equal amount of damage to the boss.
The boss won’t start attacking instantly after arriving in the arena. So you will have some time to prepare your strategy. During the first phase, the boss mainly uses close-range attacks, so keeping your distance from her will save you from getting deadly hits. The boss will welcome players with a laser attack where she shoots a laser beam toward them. Rolling at the perfect time will help you avoid this attack.
Apart from this, another attack the boss will frequently use during the first phase is the slam attack, where she will slam her head at you. Roll to any side as soon as you see her launching this attack. The third attack to watch out for is the laser attack, where a sweeping laser will come out from the head of the boss. This is another easy-to-avoid attack.
The final attack of this phase is the double swipe attack, where the boss runs at you with both hands stretched forward. First, she will swipe her right arm, and then her left arm. Roll toward her to avoid getting hit. Well, while rolling toward her, don’t get too close to the boss, or she will crush you with the fingers she has on the sides of her body.
Once you have dealt enough damage to the enemy, the next phase of the fight begins. This phase will become tougher. The boss will go through a transformation and start attacking with projectiles that will affect a large area. However, one of the deadliest attacks of the boss will come when she suddenly starts absorbing air. You will instantly see the water around her rushing at her. Run as far as possible, as a big explosion is coming.
Apart from that, she will use an explosive orb attack to deal damage to players. In the second phase, the boss will go for the most damaging attack, where she will start hovering in the air and shooting fire projectiles at players. Run and roll through the arena to avoid them.
However, once you avoid her attacks, you can immediately run to her after the effects are gone to deal some damage to Metyr, Mother of Fingers. This fight will take time and effort. It may even take a few attempts, but stick to your strategy and don’t try to speed up the fight. Gradually, you will be able to take control of the fight. Once the boss is dead, she will drop Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers.
If you have been progressing through the game and struggling to beat the bosses, this struggle will reach its max when you reach to fight Messmer, The Impaler.
