Boss fights are what make RPGs challenging and exciting. This statement is totally justified for Elden Ring and its latest DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. Though these games are nearly perfect in every aspect, without the boss encounters, they probably won’t reach their peak of popularity. After the massive success of Elden Ring boss characters, FromSoftware has prepared more challenging bosses in the expansion, and Jori, Elder Inquisitor, is definitely among them.

Unfortunately, she is not an optional boss whom you can skip if you don’t find her suitable for fighting. So, the fight is a must if you want to make your way further through the story. Undoubtedly, the fighting method won’t be easy, and players may need some help to tackle the boss. Therefore, we have prepared this guide to solve all the queries and confusion about beating Jori, Elder Inquisitor.

Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Jori, Elder Inquisitor in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree

Shadow of the Erdtree has been maintaining the tradition of Elden Ring quite well by featuring powerful bosses from the very beginning of the expansion. Jori, Elder Inquisitor appears pretty early in the game, but she is not a straightforward enemy to beat, especially given her range of magic abilities. We will elaborate on the fighting process, but let’s start with the location of the enemy.

Where to Find Jori, Elder Inquisitor in Shadow of the Erdtree

Heading toward the Darklight Catacomb dungeon will open the path to face Jori, Elder Inquisitor in Shadow of the Erdtree

If you haven’t yet located the boss, let me tell you that this enemy will be found in the Darklight Catacombs dungeon and serve as the final enemy to beat before you make your way to the Abyssal Woods, the creepiest location to explore in the game. To reach Abyssal Woods, players need to go through the Darklight Catacombs, which is an optional dungeon located in the southern section of Scadu Altus

To begin your journey, start progressing through the second major legacy dungeon of the expansion, named Shadow Keep. As you progress, you will eventually go down a waterfall and end up finding the Recluses’ River. Go to the bottom of the lake, and eventually, you will find the entrance to the Darklight Catacombs.

Once you are inside the dungeon, start roaming around it. Precisely, start taking the stairs and going down into the depths of the dungeon. Climb the ladders, and gradually, you will find yourself outside the fog gate of the boss arena. Entering the gate will begin the Jori, Elder Inquisitor, fight.

Jori launching projectile attacks at the beginning of the boss fight. Dodge them to survive.

Initially, the Shadow of the Erdtree bosses seem like unbeatable creatures without any weakness to take advantage of. However, the case is a little different. They all come with their own particular set of weaknesses that players can exploit to deal massive damage to them. Of course, Jori, Elder Inquisitor, is no exception to this tradition.

When the fight begins, the range of magic attacks of the enemy will overwhelm players. However, this boss is comparatively easy to handle, with a list of weaknesses. The boss is pretty slow at launching attacks, though she can sometimes teleport to a different location, especially when players constantly hit her.

Jori generally uses her ranged projectile attack to deal damage. In this attack, the boss starts shooting horizontal projectiles toward players, and this attack is a bit lengthy with a few seconds of expansion. Apart from this, the boss sometimes summons tornadoes and the spirits of other Inquisitors. Fortunately, none of these attacks are challenging to handle. Players can easily dodge these attacks if they continuously run around the boss arena.

Jori summons inquisitors to help her eliminate you during the fight. Use a Spirit Ash to tackle this situation.

Once you understand the attack pattern of the enemy, the fight will be a piece of cake. We recommend summoning a Spirit Ash to make the fight a less time-consuming one. Though the choice is yours, we suggest summoning Mimic Tear because it will have the same weapons and equipment as you do. So, the attacks will become a lot stronger.

The boss is extremely vulnerable to physical attacks. So, you can have your Spirit Ash distract the enemy while you go close to her and hit her with your melee weapon. For this fight, if you have brought a Greatsword, that’s probably the best thing one can have. Well, swords and katanas will also work. From time to time, use ranged attacks to deal damage, but try using your melee weapons to attack her, especially don’t miss a chance to backstab the enemy.

Jori is not a major boss of the game; therefore, she is pretty weak against backstabbing, and players must take advantage of this weakness. Well, while doing these, ensure that you are watching out for her attacks. Don’t take her attacks lightly because of her weaknesses. Her attacks drain a chunk of health when they land successfully. So, keep your distance from the boss most of the time.

Now that we have talked about all the offense strategies, let’s have a look at boosting your defense. While running throughout the fight is recommended, this will consume a lot of stamina. So, we recommend having Greenburst Crystal Tear or Greenspill Crystal Tear in your Flask of Wondrous Physicks. These will help you not lose stamina for a certain duration. Additionally, it would be best if you had magic-resisting armor equipped.

This fight is not a tough one if you use the strategies correctly. It may take some time but don’t lose concentration and stick to your strategy. The health bar of Jori is pretty large. So, it can’t be empty within seconds. Keep calm and find opportunities to land attacks on the enemy. Repeating the same process a few times will take Jori down. Once the boss is down, players will receive Barbed Staff-Spear and 260,000 runes as rewards.
