Fans of first-person shooter games are eagerly waiting for the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in October this year. As with any sequel, the new game’s fast-approaching release date has got some fans taking a nostalgic look back at other installments in the iconic franchise.

While Activision has always published every title in the franchise, their development has often changed hands, with each new studio taking a different approach to the respective title’s setting, gameplay mechanics, and campaigns with mixed levels of success on critical and commercial fronts.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is shaping up to be a great addition to the franchise.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 continues the main story from its predecessor, promising players an exciting sequel full of twists and turns that stem from its main characters’ murky motivations. Set in the early years of the Gulf War in a world still reeling from the effects of the Cold War, the CIA comes under the threat of a new and unknown entity.

In a post on the Call of Duty subreddit, a user named AnimeGokuSolos wonders if some of the franchise’s innovations were treated unfairly by its fans. Including images of the games in question.

Known for their attempts with futuristic, sci-fi settings that seemed more at home in franchises like Destiny, these games were widely panned upon their release, with players clamoring for a return to what the series did best. However, it seems that time has healed those wounds to some extent, with some fans bringing up fond memories of past titles.
