Baldur’s Gate 3 Latest Update: Cross-Play Feature, 12 New Subclasses, and More
Baldur's Gate 3 is getting the last major update in 2025 before Larian Studios shifts to other games, abandoning this one for a while.
- Baldur's Gate 3 received the Update 8 patch note, revealing loads of upcoming content.
- Players will get new subclasses and associated elements to experience a more impressive journey.
- Aside from that, the game will get the photo mode and other in-game elements that weren't in the game to date.
Looking back at the 2023 gaming scene almost immediately brings to mind a few successful titles, and Baldur’s Gate 3 will obviously be one of them. Larian Studios has drawn the entire limelight as soon as this RPG was released. Even after a year of successful run, the developer team is devoted to making the game more attractive to players. Thus, new updates are often included in the game.
Since the game was released, a few features have been absent throughout. Even after a lot of requests, Larian never responded or added them. Surprisingly, the Update 8 patch note has announced a few of them coming in 2025.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8: Bringing a Dozen of New Subclasses
Just a month back, Baldur’s Gate 3 received its seventh patch note, which has brought loads of content to the game, including a mod manager, mod tools, and, most interestingly, an evil ending that has attracted the attention of gamers.
Within a month, once again Larian is ready with another patch note, which will go live in 2025. This patch note has tons of features, and a lot of them are even long-demanded ones. However, the first set of new additions includes a dozen new sub-classes. These subclasses include:
- Rogue – Swashbuckler
- Warlock – Hexblade
- Cleric – Death Domain
- Bard – College of Glamour
- Druid – Circle of Stars
- Barbarian – Path of Giants
- Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
- Monk – Drunken Master
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown
- Fighter – Arcane Archer
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper
- Wizard – Bladesinging
Some of these subclasses are fan-favorite versions taken from Dungeons and Dragons. However, the rest of them are made for the game. With all these new classes, as Larian said, players can expect to see new abilities, animations, VFX, summons, and unique voices. These will add a new touch to the gameplay experience.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Is Bringing Photo Mode in 2025
Since the game was released, one of the most demanded features was the photo mode. Players love to capture scenes or other in-game achievements using the photo mode. However, up to update 7, Larian Studios was completely silent about bringing a Photo Mode. Suddenly, the latest patch note revealed that this highly anticipated mode is coming next year.
As Larian stated in the patch note, the upcoming photo mode will be like a photo booth where players can add almost every snap they capture. Even this new mode will come with customizable options that let players capture and edit
“In-game photography, with various levels of freedom depending on whether you’re using it while adventuring, or during combat, dialogue, and cinematic scenes.”
In the photo mode, players can toggle the camera and select the character they want to take the central stage. They can even adjust angles to find the best position to take shots. Additionally, players can line up all their teammates to take a group photo.
Not only that, the photo mode will allow players to focus on the main character they want to take the photo of. Others can easily be omitted, irrespective of whether they are your allies or enemies or just random NPCs.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Is Bringing the Long-Awaited Crossplay the Next Year
Crossplay is one of the most appreciated features in any multiplayer game. With crossplay, players can join a multiplayer game with their squad using any gaming platform. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t have this essential feature at this point, but according to the latest patch note, it is soon coming to the game.
Once this feature is added, players can create a squad and join the game from PS5, without caring whether the rest of their teammates are playing on the same platform or different ones. Not only that, the upcoming update is also bringing cross-platform progress.
Players can now play the game on multiple platforms and save the progress on each. If they begin the game on PC and then, after a point, they want to continue it on PlayStation 5, they can easily do that.
The update 8 is going to be huge, and it is going to be the last major update. After this, Larian Studios is going to shift to other games, taking some break from this RPG.
