In less than a year, the level of impact that Baldur’s Gate 3 has had on the gaming industry has been quite impressive, as Larian Studios has always been transparent with the community and keeps players updated with any changes coming to the game.

Although the base title felt like a complete experience, role-playing games like 2023’s Game of the Year also benefit from an active modding community, but unfortunately, there was not really any official support for the creatives who manage to add even more layers with their mods. Thankfully, that is about to change very soon, as the developer has announced that it will be officially supporting mods with an upcoming patch for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Modders Will Be Able to Officially Unleash Their Creativity in Baldur’s Gate 3 This Year

The possibilities will truly become endless once Baldur's Gate 3 receives Patch 7.

Titled “Official Modding Support,” Larian Studios addressed the Baldur’s Gate 3 Steam community to give it an update regarding the upcoming Patch 7. According to the studio, the developers are working on creating the first batch of modding tools for the players, confirming that the update is scheduled for launch in September.

The patch will bring a modding toolkit for the fans, so they can, as the developer jokes, give “Lae’zel a mullet,” among a lot more since the potential possibilities are truly endless with the studio’s latest initiative.

Before the update goes live later this year, the developers are letting some members of the modding community test it out to ensure that it launches without any issues. Together with the modders, Larian is implementing existing mods in the game through the official Toolkit, as the closed alpha phase of Patch 7 kicked off earlier today.

But for those players who may be feeling left out, the developer has also announced that it will let PC gamers register for the closed beta stage next month, granting them the chance to witness all the creativity that will be taking place in the alpha.

The Mod Support Is Not the Only Thing Larian Studios Is Currently Working on

From modding tools to significant fixes, the developer is keeping the game alive nearly a year after launch.

Aside from the official modding tools, Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to become a better experience with Patch 7 thanks to some major fixes and quality of life changes that will be improving an already top-tier video game.

The developer also mentioned that as the community nears the first anniversary of the title, it has some well-deserved celebrations planned in the form of various content.

For starters, while the game looks absolutely stunning, the lack of an in-game photo mode has always been a glaring absence, but fortunately, Larian is developing the feature along with crossplay as well.

Considering that Swen Vincke has confirmed that Larian will not be developing any DLC or sequel for Baldur’s Gate 3, keeping the game alive through updates and patches seems like the respectful way for the developer to treat its magnum opus and the fans.
