If there’s one thing that the Assassin’s Creed series has been amazing at since its first installment, it’s the cinematic trailers that are masterfully put together to introduce each title. Ubisoft started the trend when it introduced Altair Ibn-La’Ahad, and it continues today as the developer unleashed the world premiere trailer for Shadows.

A Japanese setting always seemed like the perfect playground for the franchise, and now that Ubisoft has provided an extensive look at what fans can expect from the upcoming entry, it looks like it was worth the wait.

Ubisoft Unleashes the Trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Similar to the cinematic trailers that have accompanied previous Assassin’s Creed games, the one for Shadows is also filled with adrenaline, battles, and an immersive setting that the protagonists will be navigating.

The footage kicks off with Naoe, one of the two playable characters, chasing a man through a forest to assassinate him, as the trailer showcases a tragic backstory for the shinobi. Initially living in independent peace with her people, everything changes when her world starts to burn “in the name of unification,” as war engulfs the Japanese Iga Province and forces her to take matters into her own hands.

As Naoe bears a grudge against the samurai for the devastation they caused her, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer also introduces the real-life-inspired Yasuke, the second protagonist. It turns out that Yasuke played a major role in the destruction of Iga Province, but he is trying to come to terms with all the horrors that he has committed in the past. This creates a tense dynamic between the two protagonists, as they have to put aside their differences to take on a bigger threat.

The Shinobi and the Samurai Will Join Forces in November

Inspired by the real-life historical figure Yasuke, the samurai will have to make up for his horrifying past acts in the name of duty.

Although the Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date was accidentally revealed by Ubisoft ahead of the cinematic trailer’s launch, it has been confirmed that the upcoming Japan-set installment will be coming out on November 15, 2024.

The studio kept the momentum going by also announcing that detailed gameplay footage will be shared with the fanbase next month in June, so it remains to be seen how the differences between the two protagonists’ mechanics will look in-game.

While Yasuke will handle most situations with heavy combat, Naoe will take a more stealthy approach to take out her enemies from the shadows, as the name of the next Assassin’s Creed game suggests.

In addition to all of that, Ubisoft has listed various editions for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and players who pre-order any edition will get access to a bonus quest called Thrown to the Dogs. After a long period of silence and leaks, fans finally have new official details about the highly anticipated installment, and with the latest cinematic trailer, the studio did not disappoint.
