All You Need to Know About the Rumored New “Horizon” Game Set to Release Next Year

The Horizon franchise is in full swing. Science fiction and action-adventure are the two most popular entertainment genres, and Guerrilla Games combined them in 2017 with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, introducing the Horizon series. Gamers willingly accepted this deadly combination, and the first two games’ success clearly shows this part. Once again, speculation is circulating about the next entry in the series coming in 2025.
2024 has seen loads of ups and downs. While some renowned titles failed to succeed, a few that were never expected to perform well sold millions of copies within a few months of their release. Well, among all these, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Horizon series games maintained their position.
Horizon Franchise Games: Total Sales and 2024 Journey
As avid fans, most of you probably have a good idea of how these games performed over the years, but here we are just giving a recap for those who are new to the Horizon series. This action-adventure series has two main entries, with a few spin-offs, and since 2023, Horizon games have sold more than 32 million copies worldwide.
The first one, Horizon Zero Dawn, was released in 2017 and introduced the journey of Aloy, the protagonist of the series. After five years, Horizon Forbidden West was released, continuing the storyline and adventures of Aloy further. Although later in 2023, this series received another entry, named Horizon Call of the Mountain, it was exclusively for PlayStation VR2 headsets.
The momentum of the Guerrilla Games was never that good before 2024. This year, this action-adventure science-fiction series came to the limelight multiple times. First, Horizon Forbidden West came to PC in March; next, even after so many negative responses from PlayStation players, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was released in October. Finally, LEGO Horizon Adventures was released on November 14, 2024.
It’s only been a day since the last game of the series was released, and fans have already started hinting at another game coming in early 2025.
Guerrilla Games Seems Not Ready to Lose the Momentum
Even though fans are already satisfied with what they have received this year, a rumor recently popped up about a new entry coming in 2025. The speculation originated from a job vacancy post where Guerrilla is looking for an intern to work on a project during the first half of 2025, which will provide them with theoretical and practical knowledge of the game.
The job poster mentioned nothing about which project it is talking about, and there’s no specific hint that refers to any Horizon series games; still, players have been assuming that it must be a new entry to this renowned action-adventure series.
The 2025 Sony lineup is really exciting, with Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 already in the queue. That’s why players assume that Guerrilla’s job opening hints at an upcoming Horizon title.
Reportedly, a live-service multiplayer Horizon game has been under development for years. Therefore, even if a Horizon title comes, it won’t probably be the sequel to Horizon Forbidden West.
The possibility of the sequel coming in 2025 can also be eliminated because earlier this year the developer team hinted that the next main entry in the series would take some time.
As the rumor started circulating on social platforms, PlayStation players started reacting in a mixed way. While a few are excited to get a new Aloy game, multiple others are a bit frustrated that Sony is prioritizing the Horizon IP over multiple others that they have been demanding for years already.
What Players May Expect From the Upcoming Horizon Game?
Once again, there’s no confirmation that the next installment of this widely popular franchise will come in 2025. But if Guerrilla really brings one, this will definitely be an outstanding experience. Players who have played the previous games of the series will for sure agree to the point that the post-apocalyptic United States in the 31st century was nicely portrayed, while keeping in mind loads of details.
The graphics of these games are flawless, and with each new installment, the quality only increases. If you take a closer look, you will find the machines that you have faced in the introductory game were much improved and aesthetically well-designed in the next one.
While it had not-so-aggressive machines like Tallneck, the game even featured Behemoths and Bileguts, who served the purpose of powerful and brutal bosses.
If the developer team keeps working this way, in the next game the in-game world and the machines will for sure surprise fans with loads of unique enemies and in-game features.
The next game will definitely be something bigger and better with Aloy taking down even more aggressive machines to progress through her journey.
