SUMMARY
  • Warhammer 40K fans could be in for yet another treat, as Darktide may be coming to PlayStation 5 soon.
  • With Space Marine 2 putting the franchise back on track, Fatshark could put a much-needed spark into its 2022 title.
  • The developer is already planning to launch a free major update for Darktide in less than two weeks.

With the highly anticipated and extremely successful launch of Space Marine 2, developer Saber Interactive has not only satisfied its own fanbase, but it has also brought a lot of joy and excitement to the Warhammer 40K community simultaneously.

While fans had been waiting for a sequel to the Relic Entertainment-developed title for more than a decade, another video game based on the long-running franchise was released in the meantime with a lukewarm reception from players, overshadowing its existence in just a couple of years. However, as Fatshark gears up to bring yet another update for its 2022 title later this month, improving upon various aspects throughout its lifespan, it looks like a PS5 port is coming very soon as well.

As Space Marine 2‘s triumphant launch stats proved that there is a huge market for video games based on the Warhammer 40K universe, it seems like the franchise’s momentum is not about to stop yet, as a PlayStation 5 version of 2022’s Darktide has reportedly been rated in Taiwan.

Initially released only for PC and making its way to Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S consoles after nearly a year, developer and publisher Fatshark seems to finally be bringing its divisive title to the Sony gaming ecosystem.

It is worth noting that the game has not been without its fair share of issues, with a drastic decrease in its player base numbers in just a few months, as many believed that although Darktide had potential, Fatshark did not really use it to its highest degree.

However, even with the mixed reception that it received at launch, the developer seems to be sticking by its Warhammer 40K title, constantly releasing new updates for it, and trying to make it a better experience than it was at its rocky beginning.

The PlayStation 5 Version May Get an Official Update With Unlocked and Loaded’s Launch

The next major update for Darktide will be released later this month.

Around 20 days ago, the community manager on the official Fatshark forums announced that the developer is bringing a brand new update for Warhammer 40K: Darktide, which will be completely free and will include fresh content to keep the game going years after its initial release.

Called Unlocked and Loaded, the update, releasing on September 26, will include a new mission and social feature, along with some significant changes to overhaul the game’s itemization mechanic.

Being a major update for Darktide, the recent rating in Taiwan could suggest that the official announcement from Fatshark regarding the game’s PlayStation 5 port may coincide with the launch of Unlocked and Loaded, making it the perfect opportunity to bring in new players and welcome them with additional content.

It also does not hurt that Space Marine 2 has recently put the Warhammer 40K franchise back on the gaming world’s radar, which Fatshark could be thinking of piggybacking off of to breathe another life into Darktide, a title that is slowly getting lost in time despite not even being two years old.
