A New Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update Proves Ubisoft Is Leaving No Stone Unturned for the Franchise’s Success
Ubisoft is pinning its hopes on Assassin's Creed Shadows with the promise of a revamped modern-day storyline that may help it recover the trust it has lost.
- Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows received some promising news about the franchise's present-day narrative in a recent announcement.
- The studio hopes to recreate the magic of its glory days with the upcoming samurai-themed title that has long been on the wishlists of the series' fans.
- With two Assassin's working to craft a new path for feudal Japan, Ubisoft will hope that the game can turn things around for it in the wake of a series of underwhelming releases.
Ubisoft’s recommitment to the modern-day storyline in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a showcase of the French studio’s attempts to create an experience that allows the franchise to win back some of the players it has lost over the past few titles while allowing the studio to enjoy a much-needed victory amidst its current woes.
With the franchise finally headed to feudal Japan – a historical setting that fans of its many titles have longed for – Ubisoft is hoping to rekindle interest in the narrative it has been trying to revive since Desmond Miles made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world from its doom.
The Assassins May Yet Rise Again in the Present
While Desmond did make an appearance at the end of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a title that ended with a cliffhanger that promised a lot of twists and turns for its storyline in the present, Mirage took a detour built on its predecessor while refraining from presenting any further plot development with regard to the present-day narrative that was once a major presence in the franchise.
However, that is set to change in Shadows according to reports is looking to take its overarching narrative a step further, showing that the studio is placing a lot of faith in its upcoming samurai-themed title that features a samurai and shinobi working together to usher in a new future for Japan. While Naoe and Yasuke seem well-equipped to handle things in the past, it remains to be seen if Ubisoft can do the same in the present, both with the franchise and its own troubled existence.
Can Ubisoft Turn Things Around With Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
The latest development from Ubisoft comes on the heels of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ release date being pushed to February 2025 in order to enable the embattled studio to further polish the game in order to deliver the best possible experience it can for fans to enjoy – a sentiment that could perhaps see Ubisoft regain some of the momentum it has lost over this past year.
However, a Reddit post discussing the possibilities of what a revamped present-day narrative could bring to the table in Shadows demonstrates that Ubisoft has a long way to go before it finds itself on the road to redemption, with many players remaining cautious about getting their hopes up for the game.
Others hope to see more of William Miles, a key figure among the modern Assassin’s ranks, finally make his presence felt in Shadows’ revamp of the series’ present-day storyline although they are not optimistic about the possibility.
Another fan of the franchise called out Ubisoft’s handling of its present-day story in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag in which its excellent take on piracy in the past overshadowed its attempts to create a shared universe with Watch Dogs in the present.
It will be interesting to see how Ubisoft takes its narrative ahead when Assassin’s Creed Shadows makes its way to its excited player base when the game launches and if the studio can manage to deliver an experience that its fans find worthy of the faith they continue to place in it.
