Life Lessons: Become a Noble Avenger With Our Light Greatsword Build in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Is taking down enemies with style and bombast your cup of tea? The Milady Light Greatsword might just be the weapon for you!
FromSoftware has given its fans yet another hit with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The much-awaited expansion to one of the finest action RPGs from the Japanese studio is finally in the hands of players, and it is already garnering critical and commercial success. The expansion adds to what made Elden Ring great in the first place, expanding on its core philosophies in meaningful ways.
This extends beyond the main narrative to the game’s nigh-infinite potential to create a character that is unique to each player, with eight new weapon types alongside fresh armor sets and gear for their Tarnished. While each of these new weapons is special in its own right, it was the Milady Light Greatsword showcased in the game’s previews that really caught our eye!
Shall We Dance Now, Milady?
With a graceful move set on its light and heavy attacks, the Milady is a great new addition to Elden Ring’s roster of weapons. It is among the earliest Light Greatswords you can find, but its stats and customizable Ash of War can make it a great choice to play through the DLC in its entirety. However, it comes with the Impaling Thrust Ash of War by default, which we found a little too vanilla considering that it was already in the base game.
Fortunately, the Wing Stance Ash of War that we saw in the previews, which sees your Tarnished hold the sword away from them before unleashing a flurry of slashes or a leaping thrust, was not too far away. Putting them together was a breeze considering we had all Stone Miner’s Bell Bearings handed in to the Twin Maiden Husks. All that remained was to figure out the best way to use it!

This build aims to capitalize on the Milady’s quick move set to add buffs to its damage that work in tandem with your stat allocations. Scaling primarily with Strength and Dexterity, it is a great choice for a Quality build, and you should slap on this Affinity while you infuse it with the Wing Stance. You may need to rearrange your stat points by visiting Renalla at the Raya Lucaria Grand Library to respec your character.

For your stats, we recommend leveling up Vigor to 60, Endurance to 25, Strength to 40, and Dexterity to 40 to begin with. Pour any extra points you may have into Strength and Dexterity to maximize the damage on your new weapon and invest into Faith or Intelligence to support any spells you might want to use. We highly recommend Flame, Grant Me Strength to further increase your damage in tight spots.
You can collect Wing Stance by heading east from the Castle Lord’s Chamber Site of Grace and scaling the nearby tower. You will need to progress through Castle Ensis to get there using your existing build as best you can. Or you could choose to get in some practice with Milady’s basic move set to really begin enjoying its flowing movements.
Either way, with the sword and Ash of War assembled, it’s time to slot in your Talismans. The Rotten Winged Sword Insignia buffs your damage when you land multiple strikes in quick succession – a given with this sword’s blindingly fast moves. Next, the Shard of Alexander increases the damage of your skills, making the Wing Stance hit a lot harder.
The Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman is a strong contender to help you survive your initial time in the Land of Shadow as its new enemies hit very hard, and you will need the boost to your defenses to trade damage with this weapon. Finally, Rellana’s Cameo adds more damage to any attacks that are executed after holding a stance for a couple of seconds, which is what the Wing Stance is all about.
In combat, prep your stance as soon as you can and use a light or heavy attack based on the situation, allowing all of your damage buffs to activate in order to decimate enemy health bars. The light attack from your Wing Stance is great for dealing with crowds, as its multiple strikes trigger your damage buff from the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia. Its heavy attacks are great at breaking through enemy shields and stunning them, allowing you to deal more damage.
By mixing in Milady’s attacks with a few spells or throwable items, you can soon become a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, tearing through the rank and file of Messmer’s armies while having a lot of versatility against larger enemies and bosses. This build does take some getting used to, but the rewards are well worth the effort. Just slap on enough armor to maintain a medium Equip Load in order to be able to dodge better.
You are now ready to try out our Noble Avenger build on the Land of Shadow’s many enemies and bosses. The Divine Beast Dancing Lion and Rellana are obvious choices, as you can get to them fairly quickly.
