They have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to meet these powerful world bosses and discover the deep secrets the Land of Shadow has been hiding. Once the journey begins, eventually, players will reach one of the earliest bosses of the DLC, Rellana, Twin Moon Knight.
Rellana is not only one of the earliest bosses in Shadow of the Erdtree, but she is a mandatory boss whom you can’t avoid if you want to progress through the storyline. So, you must face her at some point, and she will pose a great challenge. In that case, a little help can make a lot of difference. This guide will help you understand the process of beating Rellana.
Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
Now that you have come to the DLC, you must have cleared the base game. Therefore, you have a good idea of how strong the main bosses of the game can become. So Rellana may appear early in the game, but her strengths are not a joke. No matter how strong your weapons and gear are, she will still give a hard time beating her. Before going further to discuss the fighting strategies, let’s check out her location.
Rellana, Twin Moon Knight Location in Shadow of the Erdtree
If you have been progressing through Shadow of the Erdtree, you must have already unlocked the first region of the game, named Gravesite Plain. This vast region has numerous secrets to uncover, including some of the early game bosses. So, as you start exploring, make your way to the northeast side of the area. Here, you have to locate Castle Ensis.
This may increase your confusion. So let me elaborate on it a bit more. Once you have made your way to the Belurat Tower Settlement and defeated the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, start progressing toward the Three-Path Cross Grace. Behind it, you will find a bridge. Cross it, and you will find an enemy camp where a bunch of tough opponents will be waiting for you. Going past the camp, you will find Castle Front Grace, and the fortress of the castle is named Castle Ensis.
Once you reach Castle Ensis, Rellana is the main boss there. There’s no way to skip the fight once you enter the fortress. If you want to avoid fighting this enemy, you have to choose a different path to reach Scadu Altus. Of course, another path is available that goes through the Ellac River, but this is the easiest one if you beat the enemy.
How to Beat Rellana in Shadow of the Erdtree
Rellana is one of the deadliest bosses to face in the game with her fast and lengthy attack combos along with lethal damage output. Her appearance with the twin swords will definitely give veteran Dark Souls players a flashback of Dark Souls 3’s humanoid enemy, Pontiff Sulyvahn. However, the Shadow of the Erdtree boss is much more challenging to beat.
Before going into the boss arena, players need to know that this fight will take time as Rellana has a huge health bar and the fight is divided into two phases. Additionally, they can summon two NPCs for this fight: Dryleaf Dane and Needle Knight Leda. Though the choice will be yours, one thing is certain: these NPCs won’t help you a lot. Instead, they will die soon after the battle begins. Therefore, summon Spirit Ash. You can summon any Spirit Ash of your preference.
As soon as you enter the battle arena, Rellana will start attacking you with her swords. The Twin Swords are her primary weapon, but often she switches to other attacks. For example, sometimes she creates a shockwave that even the most powerful shields can’t totally absorb. So, keep a safe distance from the boss to avoid her shockwave attacks.
Apart from that, she has a Spectral Sword attack, where three Spectral Swords will chase players, and if they hit, a chuck of health will be drained. Keep moving to avoid these Spectral Sword attacks. However, the deadliest one is probably her sword slash attack, where the boss finishes the attack by crossing her two swords.
Once the boss loses 50% of her health, the second phase of the fight will start. In this phase, the Twin Blades will become swords of Fire and Ice. They will now give you status effects if they hit. So, once again, keep your distance from the boss and watch out for her moves carefully. We suggest consuming Fireproof Dried Liver as the phase starts to avoid her fire attacks. She even launches a fiery tornado in this phase.
Her attacks will become more deadly with the Spectral Sword attack having seven swords to chase you and her ice sword sending back-to-back long-range slash attacks. In this phase, her sword will often glow to hint to you that her sword swings will have status effects. So, stay out of her range.

Rellana can instantly switch or cancel her attacks and begin a new one. This not only sounds overwhelming but also feels troublesome during the fight. Additionally, she gives a little time to counter her before she launches her next attack. But if you notice carefully, you will figure out that most of her attacks are forward-driven. So, if your Spirit Ash can distract the boss, you can go behind her and hit her hard.
On top of everything, this boss is vulnerable to Lightning damage. Her battle arena is located on a shallow water pool. So, use weapons and spells that deal Lightning damage to the boss, and if you can deal enough damage with your hits and successfully parry two consecutive attacks, you can even stagger the boss for a few seconds. This will be your biggest chance to land critical hits.
That’s everything players need to know about beating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, in Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree. The fight is indeed challenging and may take a few attempts, but stick to your strategy, and you can take the boss down, even after struggles.
