Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Witness in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape
Witness is the most challenging boss in The Final Shape whom players need to defeat after going through lots struggles and a lengthy process.
Destiny 2 received the biggest expansion The Final Shape was released just a few days ago, and players have already dived into it to explore all the new content. Of course, this expansion has brought several new content to discover throughout the journey, but none can beat the boss encounters. Like always, the bosses are the main obstacles to remove to make the progress path clear, and Witness is going to be the biggest trouble to resolve.
From the very beginning of The Final Shape, players get the hint that bosses are going to be much more difficult to beat this time. As they start progressing through the game, they will eventually face bosses who are more powerful than the previous ones. So, if you have been looking for some help to figure out the defeating strategies of Witness in The Final Shape, this guide will provide you with all the required information.
Location of Witness in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape
Like most other bosses in the game, Witness also appeared as part of a mission. If you are eager to meet Witness, you have to access the Excision mission in the game, which is the first-ever 12-man mission. Destiny games never had these types of missions before. So, this mission has already attracted the attention of the players, and this mission ends with the Witness boss fight.
The catch here is that this mission can’t be accessed randomly. Instead, players need to go through a proper sequence to get the mission. To begin the process, first complete The Final Shape campaign and then start the Wild Hunt quest.
Players can access the Excision mission directly from the patrol zone that is part of the Pale Heart region. That’s the easiest option. However, they can also choose to launch the mission through a dedicated node next to the Salvation’s Edge Raid. Players don’t need to bring their own team to start the Excision mission. Instead, the game will matchmade, and random players will be chosen to form a squad to fight together to beat the boss.
With this fight, the long-term conflict between Light and Darkness will come to an end. The game will place the team of players who represent Light against the Darkness represented by Witness. So, the fight is going to be tough to complete and requires proper strategies to beat the enemy.
Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Witness in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape
When the Excision mission starts, you won’t find the Witness immediately to fight. Instead, you have to progress through the steps of destroying the defense of the enemy. The first step requires you to kill the enemies that block your path and move forward to fight the boss. In this fight, we recommend you bring the Exotic Weapons. These powerful weapons with unique abilities are the best to take the defense of the boss down faster.
The primary thing to do before initiating the direct fight with the boss is to deal with the bosses guarding the capture zones. So specifically target the enemies with yellow bars. Defeating them will eventually destroy the Darkness Shield. After you are done with this, enter the boss arena and face the Witness.

After entering the boss arena, the first objective is to collect Light. To begin the process, work with your teammates and take down the two Cornerstone bosses. They will be found in two corners of the arena. As you defeat them, you will notice that the ground will start to crack and Light will come out of there. Stand on the Light and interact with it to “Draw from the Traveler’s Light.” Once collected, go to the statues at the end of the arena and save the Light there.
Players need to work as a team to complete the task. The process requires them to deposit 16 stacks of Light to progress further. Well, the method is not as simple as it seems. The more you deposit Light, the more you will see Witness’ arms coming out of the ground. Shoot them, and they will temporarily disappear. As soon as you have completed the task, a new path will open where players need to destroy the Veil statues.
Once this destruction process is over, players will get back to the DPS arena. This is the main fighting arena, where the boss is waiting. This gigantic boss has lots of hands, and dealing damage to him is not easy. It requires lots of ammo and ranged weapons to fight this boss. Getting too close to the boss is not safe, though jumping up on the platform in the middle of the arena will help players deal significant damage to the enemy.
After you jump on the platform, you have to destroy six glyphs on the chest. Doing this will reveal the weak spots of the boss. Though almost any ranged weapon will serve the purpose, we still suggest having an Exotic gun like Still Hunt. Using this gun will probably work best against the boss.
Throughout the DPS phase, the boss will attack the platform. So, make sure to watch out for the moves of the enemy. As soon as you see a section of the platform changing color and turning golden, move away from the part of the platform to avoid getting damaged. Also, players won’t access their Supers at this phase, so try to focus more on your defense.
As soon as the DPS phase ends, the boss will push everyone off the platform, and you have to repeat the entire process. If you survive, it will take around three DPS phases to beat the enemy, but if you die, the DPS phase count will increase.
That’s everything players need to know about the process to beat Witness in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape. The fight is tough and lengthy, but a little patience and teamwork will make it possible.
