Don’t Get Stumped: Destiny 2 The Final Shape’s Psionic Conduit Puzzle Solution
Your old buddy Cayde-6 needs your help once again.
Bungie’s Destiny 2 has certainly had a long shelf life. With 7 years of content and various expansions that even included a reboot of the main narrative in the Year Four update, this game is a major presence in the live-service first-person shooter genre.
Putting its players in the role of the Guardian accompanied by their Ghost, Destiny 2‘s unique take on science fiction has allowed its developers to create environments, characters, gear, and enemies that stand out from the competition. The recent The Final Shape expansion, which sees the end of the Light and Darkness saga, takes its science fiction elements to a whole new level.
A Fitting End to the War
While The Final Shape does offer some old-fashioned action sequences, one of the ways by which it changes the core gameplay loop is the addition of mechanisms and obstacles that require the player to stretch their intellectual muscles and engage with puzzles in the environment that can help them progress its story.

A great example of this is the Psionic Conduits your Guardian comes across over the course of the expansion’s second mission, titled Temptation. After reuniting with the returning character Cayde-6 (once again voiced by Nathan Fillion), you are tasked with tracing the steps of Crow into a cave that he was last seen entering. However, things are never that easy in a game like Destiny 2.
Faced with a Psionic shield that they cannot pass, your Guardian is required to deactivate three conduits to power it down, with each one linked to a Black Sundial. With little to no information on how to use these Sundials to bring down the shield, it is up to the Guardian to figure out a solution.
Don’t Get Stumped: Destiny 2 The Final Shape’s Psionic Conduit Puzzle Solution
While the three Sundials are fairly easy to find, powering them down requires a bit of observation and mental gymnastics. To begin powering down the Shield, approach each Sundial, using the triangular Splinters of Darkness to locate them and take down the enemies guarding it. Doing so summons several Taken Psions near the Sundial. These Psions are one part of the Psionic Conduit Puzzle in Destiny 2.
The other part of the puzzle is the Sundials themselves. With the Taken Psions in place, look at the outer edge of each Sundial to find a glowing pillar of orange light. There may be more than one at the Sundial you’re at, depending on the order in which you take them down. In that case, look at the height of each pillar of light, noting their order from highest to lowest. There are also notches on the outer edges of each Sundial that are important to solving the puzzle.
It’s time to begin powering down the conduits and taking down the Psionic Shield. The logic for solving this puzzle is fairly simple. You kill Taken Psions to gain Psionic Insight, which you can offer to each Sundial to make it move one notch either clockwise or anticlockwise every time you offer up some Insight. Note the position of the pillar of light that you want to move the dial to, and count the number of notches that the Sundial will need to move to get there.
This tells you how much Psionic Insight you will need to power down the corresponding conduit. All that remains is to kill the requisite number of Taken Psions in order to farm the Insight you will need to move the Sundial to the right position. If the Sundial you are trying to power down has more than one pillar of light, move it to the tallest one first and proceed to move it to the others, going from the tallest to the shortest pillar.
This is a fairly simple puzzle once you are able to understand how the Sundials work. There is no time limit on moving the Sundials, as well as no penalties if you happen to get it wrong. This makes the Psionic Conduit puzzle quite straightforward in terms of its difficulty. The only challenge here is that you will need to move quickly after taking down the Psions lest you lose all the Insight you have gathered.
You will also need to ensure that you’ve cleared the area on higher difficulties, as having to deal with enemies while you work on the Sundials can get tiresome pretty quickly. Moreover, the Taken Psions do not appear until you have cleared the area.
Completing all three Sundials deactivates the Conduits and powers down the Psionic Shield, allowing you to continue your pursuit of Crow and progress the story in Destiny 2‘s The Final Shape expansion.
