Evil Lurks in the Shadows of Erebus
In Hades 2, players may encounter special enemies who can be seen protecting upgraded versions of the regular god Boons that you’ll want to collect throughout Melinoe‘s journey. These enemies can be found before facing the mini-bosses. Taking down these mini-bosses will pay off in the end. To defeat a mini-boss, one must learn their patterns and nail their fights.
After reaching Erebus, players will be confronted by Root Stalkers, who are minibosses found in the first region of the route to the underworld. Drawing power from nature, these demonic creatures are capable of dealing very serious damage.

Follow a general step-by-step procedure during the fight. At first, take down the shield of the vine. Try to avoid both the Root Stalker and the partner vine while taking down the vine’s shield. As soon as the shield comes down, destroy the vine quickly. After dealing with the vine, try to go for the Root Stalker’s shield and attack it while moving in between its attacks. When the shield falls, the Root Stalker will become vulnerable, and then it can be defeated easily. We have broken down the steps in detail below.
The fight with a Root Stalker will involve dealing with two different entities. During the course of the battle, players will have to remain cautious since the two entities will be holding different positions during the fight. The Root Stalker will be in the center of the arena, while a thorned vine capable of traveling underground will add to your misery. Also, the enemies will be protected by armor, so you will have to get rid of it before launching your attacks on them.
Start by getting rid of the thorned vine, which has one basic move: a swinging attack. This move deals damage in a small circle around the thorned vine. Be careful while moving away from the vine since it can dive under the ground and start following you if you’re far away.
Maintain a regular distance to make sure it doesn’t reach underground. Keeping the thorned vine above the ground is the safest way to avoid its unpredictable attacks, which are launched by popping up suddenly. Keep an eye out for its location until you have killed it. The thorned vine won’t be much of a problem after you have brought down its shield. Then you will be able to interrupt its attacks and kill it quickly without worrying about its charging blows.
The thorned vine might draw all your attention towards it, but don’t forget that you will also have to deal with the Root-Stalker’s attacks. The miniboss will release a stream of thorns from its hands. This primary attack from the Root-Stalker will continuously test your resolve as it will follow you in every direction. However, this attack can be evaded by moving to the edge of the arena and sprinting around it in a circle.

Along with its primary attack, the Root-Stalker is capable of summoning a large circle of vined terrain. Once this attack is launched, a purple circle will start glowing on your screen before the terrain is changed. As soon as the circle glows, it’s a cue for you to avoid the changing terrain at all costs. Making contact with the terrain won’t do anything, but it will hold you up in the place for a while, therefore making you an easy target for the Root-Stalker’s thorn attack.
The miniboss has a range of diverse attacks, and it continues with a quick swiping attack. This attack will fall right upon you if you get too close. The best way to evade it is by dodging away or through the boss. The Root-Stalker takes some time to recover after launching a thorn stream attack. During this moment, you will have to strike to deal damage, as it will take a few seconds to recover.
Defeating the Root-Stalker is all about timing. Try to learn the pattern of its thorn stream attack and wait till the end to deliver your blows using the Moonstone Axe’s blocking Omega Special attack.
Be careful while fighting the Root-Stalker since the vine will also be in your vicinity. Running right into the vine will bring a spinning attack. So, it is wiser to deal with the vine first before dealing with the Root-Stalker.
