The last couple of weeks have been a rollercoaster ride for Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2, as the PlayStation Network and Steam accounts linking controversy nearly damaged the reputation that the developer had created for its game. But the soldiers of Super Earth emerged victorious at the end, as they united against the common threat, expressed outrage as a community, and forced Sony to backtrack on its decision.
Now that the negativity’s out of the way, Johan Pilestedt and his team can focus on improving the experience for their player base, with the first seemingly being an addition that players have been looking forward to since the game’s lowest period.

It did not take long for Arrowhead Game Studios and Johan Pilestedt to bounce back from the unfortunate situation that recently took over the game, even after players started review bombing Helldivers 2 on Steam before PlayStation and Sony backtracked on their account linking requirements.

The title has enjoyed unbelievable highs on Valve’s platform, but the bombardment of negative reviews created a graphical shape that the developer is now using to its advantage and as a well-earned celebration for the community.
Calling it “the accidental cape design” in one of his frequent posts on X, Pilestedt and team started planning on converting the Steam review graph into a cape that the players would be able to equip, and in his latest update, the director teased its completion and eventual addition to the game.
Arrowhead Game Studios’ title has been thriving on the focus it shows towards its community, and the way the fanbase got together and made a massive corporation listen to its demands was nothing short of unusual and applaudable. So, creating a cape based on the players’ huge victory seems like a fitting way to celebrate its success, although it remains to be seen what it will officially be called in the game.

As Helldivers 2 players emerged even stronger than they were before, one of the community members showcased how the celebratory cape could potentially look in the game.

The fan called their version “The Prodigal Son,” as the cape celebrated the level of “efficiency” that the Helldivers showed throughout the controversy.
The proposed stats that come with The Prodigal Son maxed out each one of its abilities, and although that might be a bit broken and overpowered when actually implemented in the game, it suggests that nothing can stand against the Helldivers 2 community.
Another player proposed a name that shows how each member of the community stood together for a common cause even in real life: Freedom United Cape.
There haven’t been many video games in recent times that have brought together millions of players, built an extremely tight community, and gotten their fanbase to stand as one against a corporate behemoth, but Helldivers 2 continues to do exactly that for Super Earth’s glory.
