Marvel Rivals Is Bringing Back 1 Hellish Supervillain Who Needs More MCU Appearances
The Queen of Hel is ready to unleash hell.
There’s something very promising about NetEase’s upcoming title, Marvel Rivals, as it seems like an ambitious crossover from the comics that’s been missing from the gaming industry. Aside from Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles, the comic behemoth doesn’t have an impactful presence in the realm of games. Titles like Marvel’s Avengers didn’t help its case either, but NetEase’s game looks like a lot of fun.
The crossover potential was realized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, but even that massive franchise got plenty wrong, with especially the villains not getting the justice they deserve. Fortunately, although she may have only had limited screen time in the MCU, Marvel Rivals is bringing back a supervillain who stole the show and needs more appearances in the franchise.
The Queen of Hel Will Be Playable in Marvel Rivals
Until now, NetEase had revealed 18 superheroes and villains that’ll be making their way to Marvel Rivals, which include iconic characters like Spider-Man and Magneto, along with some that came to the mainstream forefront thanks to the MCU.
The developer shared a new trailer for another character that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already featured, announcing that Hela will be joining the likes of Iron Man and Loki in the game.
The Queen of Hel comes with dark electric powers, so it’s nice to see that despite being a shooter title, NetEase’s game won’t give every character basic guns to run around with, as Hela has her own abilities to take her enemies down.
The Marvel Rivals trailer also showcases a unique way in which Hela can quickly get around the map or to higher places, as she transforms into a crow to make her gameplay more convenient.
As Hela Unleashes Hell, Her Gameplay Perspective Changes
NetEase has done a great job in the character design of Hela in Marvel Rivals, and her regular powers look fun, but the standout aspect of the trailer starts when she says “hell unleashed,” as she activates her ultimate attack. The interesting part is that her gameplay perspective switches from a normal third-person mode to first-person, allowing her to target her enemies from above and giving her a better view of the battlefield.

Officially described “as the most chilling Duelist,” the Queen of Hel looks like she will add fresh layers to the Marvel Rivals roster and mechanics, as she can also use “a rain of nightswords” to completely devour the opposition.
Despite being the main villain in Thor: Ragnarok, Hela has not had many other recurring MCU appearances aside from a couple of flashbacks and a What If…? episode, so for those fans who were hoping to spend more time with the character, Marvel Rivals feels like the perfect title to do it in.
The hopes of a modern multiplayer video game based on Marvel characters may have died a little due to the cancellation of Insomniac’s Spider-Man: The Great Web, but NetEase Games is restoring the community’s faith in the concept once again.
