How to Complete Old Friends (Bond Mission) in Rise of the Ronin
Trying to strengthen your bond with Toshimichi Okubo? Let's checkout the best process to do it.
Bond missions have always been some of the most interesting quests to complete in Rise of the Ronin. These are side quests that are generally given by the NPCs of the game, specifically by the allies that players have set up a bond with. Skipping these activities doesn’t alter the story of the main game, but players will miss some interesting interactions and rewards, and most importantly, new combat styles or weapons. The Old Friends Bond mission is among them in Rise of the Ronin.
Bond missions are not tough. They don’t take lots of time, but sometimes the activities are a bit puzzling until one understands what to do. So, if you are trying to understand how to accept the Old Friends Bond mission and complete it, this guide will provide you with all the necessary information.
Rise of the Ronin – How to Accept The Old Friends Bond Mission?
We have mentioned that Bond missions are character-specific missions, and they are primarily focused on increasing Bond with an ally. So, before you start the Old Friends mission, it is necessary to understand which character this mission is going to focus on. Well, this Bond mission is the only Bond mission to deepen friendship with Toshimichi Okubo.

Players will meet this NPC automatically during their progress through the main story. He is the friend and guard of Princess Atsuko, who’s interested in ensuring the safety of the princess, and players need to help him fight the Blue Demon to establish a bond with him. Once the bond is established, Jin can now access his bond mission, The Old Friends. Completing this bond mission will help them increase their bond with the ally.
Accessing the Bond missions sometimes depends on the activities during the main story missions. Similarly, if you are trying to access the Old Friends Bond mission, you have to first complete the Those Who Gather at Edo main mission. Toshimichi Okubo will be found in Edo for this mission.
How to Complete The Old Friends Bond Mission in Rise of the Ronin
To begin this quest, the first thing players need to do is make their way to Edo and look for the Satsuma Clan Edo Estate. The NPC will be found near the northeast of the northwestern banner. Interact with him to start the mission. At one point, players will get two choices: “Hey, lighten up a little” and “I want to help.” Go for the second option, “I want to help,” to move on to the bond mission.
After this decision, the NPC will tell you that he got the news that some rouges are going to arrive at the location shortly. They are going to leak some important information to the government. So he must stop them midway. He concludes his speech by saying that he is going to wait for them and wants to know what you’re thinking of doing.
Again, players will receive two speechcrafts: “I’ll wait with you” and “I need to get a few things.” To begin the Bond mission, choose, “I’ll wait with you.” The objective of the mission is clear: players need to take down four formidable enemies. Now, go to the edge of the location, and from there, fly to the island in front with the watch tower on it. Upon landing there, take down a few enemies. Try to attack them from behind and get stealthy kills. Your ally is not going to help you in the fights.
Approach the tower and use the ladders to climb to the top of the watchtower. Look at the surroundings, and again, you spot an island in front with a tower. Glide to that island and take down a few formidable enemies. This time, your ally will also fight with you to take down these enemies. Once again, approach the tower and use the ladder to climb up the tower.
Once you reach the top, you will spot your next destination, the third island. This island will be a bit tougher than the previous ones, as more formidable enemies are there on the island. Move carefully, and try to take them down stealthily. Killing enemies randomly on this island will give you the gate key. Pick it up and clear the island. Up to that point, you must have killed at least two formidable enemies.
Proceed to the next island. You will find the door locked. Use the gate key you picked up from the previous island to open the gate and enter the island. This is the final island to visit, and upon entering, next to the campfire, players will meet the main enemy, Tsunesato Kudo, along with some regular, unnamed enemies. Though Kudo should be your main target, it will be wise to take down his associates first. They won’t take more than a few seconds to be defeated.

Kudo is going to be a challenging enemy with a pretty long health bar. The fight is not going to be an easy one, as the enemy also has damaging attacks to initiate. Additionally, this enemy attacks faster. It is going to take some time to deal with Kudo. The enemy won’t have any weapons. He will use his fists as his primary way to launch attacks. Still, his red attacks are dangerous to survive.
As soon as you are done with Tsunesato Kudo, the bond mission is complete. In the next cutscene, Okubo will inform that, as you have taken down the leader, there’s no way he will leak any news about Saigo. The remaining interaction will follow information about Saigo and Satsuma.
That’s mostly everything to know if you are puzzled about completing the Old Friends Bond mission in Rise of the Ronin. This mission is not at all tough, but completing it will reward players with several interesting items, including 1600 Coins, 165XP, a Primary Weapon, a Bamboo Kimono, a Jizo Statuette, and an Endurance Remedy.
