7 Differences Between the Fallout Show and the Games (That’ll Annoy Die Hard Fans)
Prime Video's Fallout may be the best video game adaptation so far, but that doesn't mean it doesn't fall short in some obvious ways.
The Fallout franchise has made its way into television. The show has received positive reviews from critics across the world and has been renewed for a second season. The makers of the show have paid utmost attention to detail while crafting it and bringing it to life on television screens. Set 200 years after the Great War of 2077, the show stars Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean, a young Vault Dweller who ventures into the barren wasteland.
Despite widespread acclaim, the franchise faithful haven’t received certain elements of the show well. Many die-hard fans of the Fallout franchise have been quick to point out some of the major differences between the show and the video games.
7 Differences Between the Fallout Show and the Games
7. Lucy’s Tranquilizer Dart Gun
The Fallout show features a new weapon which is a harpoon gun. The gun is used by the show’s protagonist Lucy. However, in the video games, no weapons were resembling this gun. This harpoon gun operates similar to a tranquilizer dart gun.
Although Fallout 3 featured a Dart Gun, it could fire Radscorpion-laced poison darts. Lucy gets the harpoon gun at the end of Episode Six when she gets caught up in Level 12 of Vault 4. The Ghoul’s special weapon is also original and was never seen in the Fallout video games.
6. No New California Republic In The Show
As of now, viewers haven’t seen much of the New California Republic (NCR) in the TV show. The NCR plays a huge role in the Fallout lore. In the games, the New California Republic is one of the most significant post-apocalyptic governments. The NCR was founded in the city of Shady Sands and in the show viewers find out that the city has been destroyed.
5. The Tyrannical Caesar’s Legion Is Missing In The Show
Caesar’s Legion is a society of slavers who are based out of Arizona in the Fallout video games. This society is a menacing group that flies over the American wasteland. The Caesar’s Legion is a massive nation of raiders that engages in hostilities with the NCR in Fallout: New Vegas.
Originating from Arizona the society grew rapidly in the Southwest. The TV show has left out the Caesar’s Legion entirely and they can’t be seen anywhere.
4. The Brotherhood of Steel Has Seen a Resurgence
In the show, some of the societies have been bolstered. One of them is the Brotherhood of Steel who are more powerful and influential. Their manpower has been increased significantly and they have huge influence at the Eastward where they have been tasked to look out for the remains of the Enclave.
3. The Origins of the Gulpers
One of the significant changes has been made to the origins of the Gulpers. The creators of the Fallout show have changed the origin story of the Gulpers. In the game, the Gulpers are amphibious salamanders who got mutated after the nuclear fallout of the Great War. After the Great War, a radioactive phenomenon called the Fog took over the world and the salamanders mutated after coming in contact with it.
However, the TV series shows that the Gulpers have been created through experimentation in Vault 4. Here we learn that the Gulpers are a product of intense scientific experiments where human DNA was mixed with the DNA of animals.
2. Some of the Most Iconic Enemies from The Games Are Missing
The Fallout show misses out on a variety of enemies which are available in the games. Players will encounter a plethora of enemies and creatures who have populated the barren wasteland. The show has missed out on some of the major foes whom players have to confront while playing the game.
Since the show has been renewed for a second season, it is most likely that these monstrous creatures from the video games will make an appearance in the future again. Of course, it goes without saying but the biggest culprit here was the lack of Deathclaws.
1. The Biggest Mystery of The Fallout Universe Has Been Answered
For years Fallout fans have speculated about the reason and the motivations behind the Great War. Numerous fan theories popped up over the years discussing the mastermind who might have been responsible for the apocalypse that changed the fate of the world.
The apocalypse occurred when big bombs were dropped which according to many was done by China. However, the show has ended years of speculation and ended all debate by revealing the architect of the apocalypse. It has been revealed that Vault-Tec devised the entire plan and nuked its citizens.
The Fallout TV show isn’t the first time where the creators have taken the liberty to stray away from video games. Over the years we have seen such changes in many shows based on video games like The Last of Us. But since the show has deviated from the original lore it is sure to annoy the fans of the video games.
