How to Win Standoffs in Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima's Standoffs are easy to learn, but difficult to master.
Since its release in 2020, Ghost of Tsushima has been a hit with gamers. In the game, players take on the role of Jin Sakai to protect the Tsushima island from Mongol invasion. The game’s hack-and-slash action and enthralling visuals continue to captivate players. In the picturesque Tsushima island players can engage in intense action by challenging enemies through Standoffs.
How to Begin a Standoff in Ghost of Tsushima
To begin a Standoff, Jin Sakai needs to challenge enemies right before entering Mongol territory on the island. Another way to start a Standoff is by facing nearby enemies before they detect him. Since the game’s action is inspired by the Samurai style of fighting, Standoffs will give you a first-hand cinematic experience of Samurai action.
At first, you will have to find an enemy territory and go there. Once you have approached the area you will see an in-game prompt to start the Standoff. Now, press up on the d-pad to begin the Standoff.
As soon as the standoff begins the enemy will charge towards you. Hold the triangle button and then release it when the enemy charges forward to strike. While releasing the button timing is very important. Make sure to release it when the enemy moves his feet. The standoffs will keep on getting difficult as you progress through the game. Hit Y once the enemy rushes towards you to strike. Try to eliminate the enemy by following up with multiple strikes. Remember that the chances for follow-up strikes depend on your upgrades.
How to Win Standoffs in Ghost of Tsushima
The enemies in Ghost of Tsushima won’t give you an easy time once you engage in a fight with them. You need to be fully focused because they fake movements by using feints. If you misjudge a feint and release the triangle button early it will mean death. The best way to judge your opponent’s movement is by concentrating your focus on their feet.
An enemy will have to use the upper part of the body to use a feint while its feet remain grounded. When an enemy launches an attack its feet move which gives you the signal to release the button in time. By winning a Standoff you can prove your mettle in the vast world of Ghost of Tsushima. Once you have completed a Standoff successfully the nearby enemies will be spooked by your presence.

Since the game has a geographically diverse terrain you will find areas where your enemy will be standing on tall grasses which makes it difficult to see their feet. In such scenarios focus on their torsos which move when they try to launch an attack. While in a fight activating the Wind Stance helps a lot. This stance will help you to block the attacks from your enemies. Bear in mind though some enemies are more difficult to deal with than others. For example, the Ronins are faster than the Mongols and their attacks are very swift.
Players should keep in mind that being equipped with upgrades increases your chances in a standoff streak. Check out the “Standoff Streak” and “Improved Standoff Streak” in the techniques list. Now, invest in them to improve your chances.
For armor upgrades, you can use the Ronin Attire and Ghost armor. This slows down the enemy’s detection capabilities and will help you while approaching. Using the Sakai Clan armor also increases the player’s standoff streak and it can be used to scare your enemies after finishing a successful standoff.
Completing standoffs will grant you new abilities and they help you gain Resolve (a measurement of your Samurai strength). Executing standoffs can grant you the special ability of Ghost Stance. Players will have to fight and eliminate seven enemy units without losing any health to earn the Ghost Stance.
So, follow these tips to execute Standoffs successfully in Ghost of Tsushima. As always good luck and stay tuned with us for more guides.
