Spider-Man: The Great Web Would Have Featured One Hero That No Other Spider-Man Game Has Yet
Sony’s Spider-Man series is one of the most popular PlayStation series with millions of fans waiting for each new installment. After the huge success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, again, players got excited when they watched the leaked trailer of Spider-Man: The Great Web, but the cloud of disappointment surrounded them almost instantly. Immediately after the incredible trailers were leaked, the title got canceled and as sources report, there’s no chance of Insomniac reworking on this title in the near future. However, one of these videos shows that this time a new character was about to make his appearance for the first time in the Spider-Man Series.
Spider-Man: The Great Web Was Expected To Bring a New Hero Character For the First Time in The Spider-Man History
Insomniac is best known for their unforgettable gaming experiences. If you have played Spider-Man games once, you can hardly forget the adventurous and thrilling gameplay. From the storyline to character styling, the developers make sure the experience lacks nothing. While the leaked trailers show that The Great Web had all the Spider-Man characters from different worlds together, there was an Unnamed hero character in the character list of the game. A YouTube video leaked the ‘Select Archetype’ section of the game where this Unnamed hero comes in the beginning of the list.
The name or the face of the character was not revealed. However, he was placed with all the renowned Spider-Man characters like Spider-Man, Ghost-Spider, Spider-Girl,etc. Therefore, it was definitely a hero character, and a newly-introduced one. Unfortunately, even before players started assuming who it could be, the title cancellation announcement came, giving them a real shock.
The leaked trailers of the game shows that Scarlet Witch had opened Multiverse, and as a consequence, several threats have entered the world, including the Sinister Six. To fight this situation, and save the world from these threats, all the Spiderman characters from different worlds had to come together. This immediately brought to mind the story of Spider-Verse movie, and made players excited about experiencing the gameplay. However, all the hopes are now shattered as the title is closed for now.
Why Was Spider-Man: The Great Web Got Canceled?
The leaked footage shows an incredible gameplay that involves a five-person multiplayer system. This could have been easily the best ever Spider-Man game, but even before players asked for the release date, the title halt decision was announced. Not a definite reason was mentioned behind this decision, but Insomniac only revealed that Sony vetoed the development of this highly anticipated game.
SUGGETSED: The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is Heading to PC, but You’ll be Waiting a While to Play It
The live-service of the game could be one of the major reasons behind Sony’s decision of holding the title back. Previously, Sony had announced that they are moving away from live-services. Therefore, they will only release half of their scheduled games this year. Apart from this, the trailers not featuring any Spider-Verse titles could also be the reason behind Sony’s decision. A previous leak stated that it was a Spider-Verse game, but the trailers didn’t show the same.
The reason can be any of these, both, or something completely different. Unless they officially state the reason, it is impossible to know the exact reason for the title withdrawal. For now, the only fact is that Spider-Man: The Great Web won’t release.
