How to Get all Dark Aether Rift Keys (Season 2) in MW3 Zombies
Modern Warfare 3 Season 2 Reloaded update dropped only a few days back and players have already started grinding through the new content added to the game. Among all the MW3 modes, the Zombies mode is one of the most popular ones with its separate fanbase who have been looking for some new addition to the mode. Fortunately, the Reloaded update has brought several new content to the game, including new keys to open the Dark Aether Rift. Keys are essential to access the Dark Aether; therefore, if you have been trying to figure out the new Dark Aether keys to unlock the rift in Season 2, this guide will help you with all the required information.
Before going further and diving into the location of these keys, let’s check the keys to open the Dark Aether Rift.
Modern Warfare 3 Season 2 Dark Aether Keys Explained
If you have played Season 1, you are already aware of Dark Aether. So, veteran players don’t need any further explanation of what is Dark Aether. However, if you are a newcomer trying to figure out the concept, let me tell you, Dark Aether is kind of a parallel world that you generally see in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies. However, the parallel world is much more challenging and full of high-tier enemies.
Coming to the Dark Aether Rift, it can be considered the gateway to entering the Dark Aether. However, the portal is not activated by default. Instead, players need to activate it using the required keys. In Season 1, these keys include a Locked Diary, a Pilled Bottle, a Surveillance Camera, and a Dog Collar.
Season 2 has changed things a bit and now, these above-mentioned keys won’t take you inside Dark Aether. So, if you want to go inside Dark Aether, you have to get Drum, Tattered MMA Gloves, Perforated Target, and Pristine Mirror.

Acquiring Process of Drum
Drum is one of the four keys required to activate the Dark Aether Rift and this is one of the most time-consuming and troublesome to find. If you are looking for Drum, you have to complete the Act IV story mission Countermeasures. If you remember, Season 1 also has one Dark Aether Rift key that players need to get by completing the Bad Signal mission. This is kind of the same. This time the difference is that instead of one key, all four keys will be found during the Countermeasures mission. So, unless you complete the Countermeasures mission, you can’t activate the Dark Aether Rift.
Countermeasures is the only story mission of Season 2, and it takes you to the Dark Aether for 30 minutes. During this time, players need to complete all the objectives, kill the Krawvir boss, and escape the Dark Aether using the rift. As soon as the boss is dead, a reward rift will spawn giving you multiple reward items, including Drum.

During the mission, the Dark Aether Rift will automatically get activated and allow you to go inside, but once this mission is done, you can no longer go inside the rift without placing these keys on their respective pedestals.
Acquiring Process of Tattered MMA Gloves
The next item that you need to get is the Tattered MMA Gloves. Fortunately, this one also can be acquired while completing the Countermeasures mission. This is the only story mission of the game; therefore, players need to be very careful while completing it and they must not miss any item they get during this mission.
To get the Tattered MMA Gloves, players need to go to the giant cargo ship that spawns right beside their spawn area during the mission. It’s hard to miss. So, head to the ship, and on the deck, you will see an obelisk. Activate the seal of the obelisk and immediately, you will receive an Insta-Kill powerup item. Meanwhile, zombies will also start appearing and players need to melee the zombies that spawn in the glowing circular area. Once the area is cleared and the event is ended, players will be rewarded with Epic Rarity Tattered MMA Gloves.
Acquiring Process of Perforated Target
Because Season 2 Reloaded only has one Story mission, the developers have ensured that players can’t access the Dark Aether unless they complete this mission. Therefore, all four keys need to be collected in the Dark Aether during the mission and brought back to the regular world to use them and activate the rift. The third key, Perforated Target is also collected during the Countermeasures mission.
Once you start the mission and enter the Dark Aether, head to the north side of the soccer field. When you reach the E3 coordinates, you will see a four-way path and the obelisk will be placed at the center. Interact with it and activate the seal. It will start an event where players need to get headshot kills. Therefore, as soon as the zombies start spawning, players need to start killing the ones within the slowing circle. Once the event ends, you will receive epic-rarity Perforated Target.
Acquiring Process of Pristine Mirror
Last but not least, players need to get the fourth key during the same story mission Countermeasures. So, when you are roaming inside the Dark Aether and completing the mission objectives, make your way to the bottom right corner of the map, at coordinate I8. Again you will see an obelisk. Activate the Obelisk seal. But this time the activity will be tricky.
This event requires players to kill zombies with specific ammo mods that the game indicates. Therefore, players need to make sure they pick up and switch the ammo mods instantly to complete the event. For example, when the ring and the obelisk are on fire, players need to use the Naplam Burst ammo mod; but when they switch to green smoke, players need to use the Brain Rot ammo mod. Similarly, When the ring is frozen and the obelisk has a blue aura, players need to use Cyro Freeze. Once you have completed the event, you will receive a Pristine Mirror as a reward.
