Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series is one of the best gaming series ever made by Warner Bros. The pace that Batman: Arkham Asylum set in 2009 — every other game of this series has only heightened it to a new level. However, this streak was broken in 2024 with the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The tragic failure of this game was something neither the studio nor fans expected.
There were rumors about Rocksteady returning to the Batman: Arkham series to revive the lost glory, but no concrete update followed. However, some recent news and updates hint that the game might drop earlier than expected, even before Robert Pattinson comes with his next Batman journey.
Warner Bros. Giving the Batman Franchise Another Chance to Expand the Fanbase
A few new Batman games are on the way. Well, at this point, it is hard to say whether only one game is on the way or a few more will accompany it. Since the downfall started, players have been repeatedly asking Rocksteady to come back with a Batman title.
Now, whether Rocksteady is doing it or not is still uncertain, but the news of the game’s development is certain. The CEO of Warner Bros., David Zaslav, expressed that they are not happy with the recent underperforming games and wanted to focus on some of the most popular franchises, including Batman.
During a recent interview, he stated, “I think we’re through some of the worst — and it hasn’t been pretty — on the gaming business.” From these recent failures, the studio has learned that giving different types of games isn’t working for them. So, once again, Batman: Arkham is coming for sure, but the expected release date hasn’t been shared.
Whether it will be another VR game or not hasn’t yet been revealed, though rumors suggest that maybe it is Rocksteady that’s making the upcoming game.
Why Is Warner Bros. Bringing Back-To-Back Batman Games?
While this question is common, the answer is simple. Despite Warner Bros. having other renowned franchises to focus on, nothing brought it more fame than Batman, at least when it comes to gaming. After the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the studio has got this part well that it requires Batman games to reclaim its position in the gaming world.
Before Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released, Warner Bros. and Rocksteady Studios were claiming it one of the best games of the year, but after it proved to be one of the worst released in 2024, there’s no other option left than going back to this iconic franchise to let the followers stay.
Just a few weeks ago, Batman: Arkham Shadow was released, and even though Batman fans weren’t initially happy with this game because of the complete VR aspect, the 9.0 Metacritic score once again showed this is the most successful series to compensate for the loss Suicide Squad did.
If you are aware, Batman: Arkham Shadow was made by Camouflaj and not Rocksteady. So, it is probably time for Rocksteady to get back to what it can make the best.
The Next Batman: Arkham Entry May Come before Batman Part 2
Batman films are massively popular across the world with an immeasurable fanbase. Even without much research and knowledge, anyone can name a few movies based on this DC superhero. However, die-hard fans must remember the 2022’s The Batman movie, where Robert Pattinson portrayed the title role. Once again, the next part of the movie is returning with a stellar cast and many familiar faces.
Reportedly, the script is framed, and the shooting will begin early in 2025. Despite no concrete release date being given, the movie is expected to come in October 2026. Since the update of the Batman game surfaced, fans have been speculating that probably the game will come earlier, even though the announcement of the movie came long before in September 2024.
Anyway, that may or may not be the case. The primary thing is that players will probably get a Batman game and a Batman movie almost at the same time.
Warner Bros. Has a Few Other Games That It Wants to Focus On
As the CEO of the company, David Zaslav mentioned, trying different games didn’t bring them anything other than pathetic failures. Therefore, to make the gaming business steady, it is required to focus on the most successful franchises it has created. Interestingly, Batman is one of them, and not the only one.
Going forward, Warner Bros. is planning to focus on Mortal Kombat, Hogwarts Legacy, Game of Thrones, and Batman: Arkham. Among these four, it already has started working on Hogwarts Legacy. At this point, reportedly, one Definitive Edition of the game is in progress, along with a sequel. No approximate date of release has been stated, though.
About the other games, Mortal Kombat will soon get Ghostface as a character, and it will be launched reportedly on November 26.
Whether the Batman: Arkham game is already under development or not isn’t stated. So, the storyline and gameplay are still in the deep dark.
