PS5 Pro Review: It’s Good But It Could Have Been a Whole Lot Better
The PS5 Pro is now available to purchase, and if you can't decide on whether to get it or not, we have got your back.
- PS5 Pro was launched in November 7 with loads of advanced features to explore.
- This is not a new console, but only an upgraded version of PlayStation 5.
- The appearance and performance of this console can impress players truly.
The PS5 Pro is finally out, and from the moment this console was announced, PlayStation players have reached a new height of excitement. It was breaking records even during the pre-booking stage. After PlayStation promised multiple advanced features to enhance gaming on the PS5, players have been expecting some next-level experience from this new edition.
PlayStation and Xbox have been fighting hard to establish dominance in the console gaming industry. While none of them are ready to give the other one even a little bit of an edge, the release of PS5 Pro can turn the tables for Sony. If it provides players with what it has promised, there’s a huge chance that Xbox will lose its hope to some extent.
Appearance and Design of PS5 Pro
At its launch, Sony already declared that this console wasn’t going to be a new console but kind of an upgraded version of the PlayStation 5. Therefore, the design and appearance will largely remain the same. So, the first time you get your hands on the console box and open it, you shouldn’t be expecting to get something completely different.
The overall appearance of the console is pretty well-designed, and it is slightly larger than the previous one, with three horizontal lines on the sides. However, the best part is this one is slimmer than the original PS5, so judging based on appearance, it looks truly like an upgraded version of what we had previously.
After the frontal appearance, it is time to check the USB ports. The USB port side of this newest console is slightly curved, which properly reflects light. As a new addition, Sony has replaced the USB Port A with two USB Port C in the PS5 Pro. However don’t worry, if you really need a USB Port A, the console hasn’t completely abolished it.
If you place both these consoles side by side, the difference will easily be prominent. The newest one is steadier with its more minutely designed stand, while the older stand that the PS5 used to come with had no real support to keep the console steady. You might have witnessed your console falling from the stand one or two times as well.
However, this new stand is a round metallic ring with screws that holds the console strong, so it won’t fall. Well, the disappointing part is this stand needs to be purchased separately. Honestly, the appearance of the console is worth the wait and hype.
PS5 Pro Gaming Performance Is More or Less Satisfying
Appearance isn’t the ultimate thing when it comes to the PlayStation console. PlayStation is renowned for its gaming experience, and that’s the key factor to focus on. The primary promises it made were to run games at 60 FPS in 4K resolution, implement great Ray Tracing technology, and make the visuals clearer.
The very moment you dive into playing a game on PS5 Pro, you will realize that technically, this console is one of the best for gaming. While the previous console was able to run games at 60 FPS and in 4K, it must be one at a time. But the Pro version can run games maintaining both criteria.
The Ray Tracing technique is incredible, as it now enhances the background details that were almost ignored all this time. Whether you play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Remedy’s biggest hit, Alan Wake 2, you can feel the changes clearly. We would suggest trying some renowned titles on this new console to understand the effect of Ray Tracing more prominently.
Among all these, the winner is the PSSR or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. It has brought a massive difference in the gaming experience. The AI-driven upscaling was initially a bit suspicious, but Sony proved it to be the most glorious part of the newly added changes. With this feature, most games are now running on PlayStation 5 Pro smoothly on high FPS, without lags.
PS5 Pro Only Transforms the Quality of Playing Game, Not the Skills Required
Playing games requires skills, and that’s the fundamental thing. No console will change this basic requirement, and the PS5 Pro never really claimed something like that. It is not going to give anything extra to any game besides what they already had on the base PS5 because it is the upgraded version of the base console and not a completely new edition.
With its advanced Ray Tracing and PSSR, it enhances the gameplay experience by providing players with clearer visuals. However, it is not going to affect the way games should be played.
If you have been trying to play Alan Wake 2 on PS5 Pro without any prior idea of playing a survival horror game with the expectation of this console making it easier to survive, you will be utterly disappointed. You have to do everything to survive that you have done on PS5.
Is Purchasing PS5 Worth It?
This is completely up to you. We can completely understand why this question has been circulating among the community since the announcement, as the price point is a major problem. Whether spending a whopping $700 is worth it or not must be analyzed before going for this console in the first place. This is a big question for many, specifically for those who already have PS5.
The comparison should be done before bidding goodbye to the old console, and when comparing, you should not only consider the PSSR, Ray tracing, and 60 FPS but also the GPU boost, a 2TB drive to store games, and smooth gameplay experiences.
The advanced computing features will provide you with 45% better performance, which means a lot when you are a pro gamer and want to give renowned PlayStation games a try.
Of course, the final decision is still on you. According to our opinion, despite the price range still feeling a little higher than what the console is offering, it is worth giving a try if you are ready to spend some bucks.
