“They took the half-assed scenario that I just wrote up in two weeks…”: Resident Evil 4’s Creator Can’t Get Enough of His Own Games Being Remade
Resident Evil 4 is one of the best Resident Evil games, and Capcom did a great job with the remake that even the original creator admits.
- Resident Evil 4 got a remake in 2023, and it was massively successful.
- The creator of the original game also admits that Capcom did justice to it.
- Now, he wants another one of his games to get a remake.
Resident Evil 4‘s director is quite happy with the remake. Remakes are the new trend. The trend has captured almost the entire entertainment world, including gaming. As a gamer, consider a few latest released games, and you will see one or two remakes among them. Even the most renowned franchises are going with the flow.
When almost all the renowned developing studios have participated in the trend, Capcom isn’t an exception, and when it comes to Capcom, the Resident Evil series instantly comes to mind. Last year, the most celebrated Resident Evil game received a remake, and that was quite successful. Even the maker of the original game is impressed with it.
Resident Evil 4 Creator Expressed His Views on Making a Good Remake
Resident Evil is one of the widely popular survival horror game series because of its zombie-filled worlds, characterization of the protagonists and the antagonists, and most importantly, an intense storyline. Resident Evil 4 had all of these criteria completely fulfilled.
So, when the remake came, players were a bit anxious about whether it could match the level of the original, but Capcom did a great job. When the creator of the original game, Shinji Mikami, expressed his opinion, he stated, “I thought that it was really well-made.”
Going forward, he expressed that he loved the way the remake handled the combat system of the game, especially the time gap between aiming and shooting, which was extremely well-made in the original game.
As he progressed further, the 59-year-old Japanese video game designer mentioned that there’s another thing about Capcom that impressed him:
“They took the half-assed scenario that I just wrote up in two weeks and really built up on that and really fleshed it out.”
According to him, this shows the company has a good understanding of all the characters and the backstories.
Shinji Mikami Would Personally Prefer to Get One Remake That’s Not Resident Evil
Mikami was part of Capcom for a long time. He spent the longest time working with Capcom from 1990 to 2006. Therefore, a lot of Capcom games up to 2006 have Mikami’s innovative ideas. However, he has many other renowned works outside Capcom.
Before one of his works, Shadows of the Damned, received a remastered version on October 31, the Japanese developer stated that he is more interested in seeing another game getting a remake instead of Shadows of the Damned.
During an interview, he straightforwardly declared,
“Personally, I’m more interested in remaking Killer7 than I was in remastering Shadows of the Damned. If I got to choose, I’d rather do a sequel to Killer7 or something.”
But he has realized that making a remake version of Killer7 won’t be easy considering players’ expectations.
