Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Batters Modern Warfare 2 and 3, Proving the CoD Crown of Quality Has Moved to Treyarch
Since Black Ops 6 was released, it has created a stir in the community, and now it has left Modern Warfare 3 behind.
- Modern Warfare has always been the best Call of Duty sub-series.
- Despite the Black Ops series getting a few great installments, Black Ops 6 is the first to break Infinity Ward's record.
- However, Treyarch has taken some features from the Modern Warfare series for its latest installment.
Black Ops 6 has set a new record. While as a whole CoD is one of the most played FPS franchises in the world, the sub-divisions often fight to get the crown. For a considerably long time, the ‘Crown of Quality’ was occupied by Infinity Ward, but the latest Treyarch installment has set aside all the previous records to claim it.
It’s only been a few days since Black Ops 6 was launched officially, and Treyarch already proved that it has lived up to expectations, creating new records. The game has been flooded with players jumping into it from every corner of the globe.
Black Ops 6 Surpassed Modern Warfare 3 on Steam
Though Modern Warfare and Warzone are two of the most popular CoD sub-divisions, Black Ops has always captured a significant amount of audience. A lot of expectations surrounded Black Ops 6, and it has fulfilled them exactly how players expected.
Until now, Infinity Ward used to be considered the best CoD developer thanks to Modern Warfare 2, reaching a peak of 263,174 concurrent players during the opening weekend. Modern Warfare 3 continued the tradition with 190,707 concurrent players during opening days.
Since Black Ops 6 was released, reviews of this game have been extremely overwhelming, and the SteamDB chart exactly reflects this, as the game has crossed the Modern Warfare series and created a record of 306,460 concurrent players in the first weekend.
However, to date, none of these games have touched the concurrent player count of Warzone 2.0. Its debut week saw the highest player count ever, which reached a peak of 491,670. In that case, Infinity Ward is still in a higher place.
The comparison is a little unfair because Warzone 2.0 was a free-to-play game, while Black Ops 6 costs $69.99. The accessibility of the 2022 game was much higher than the latest one. Anyway, the overall performance of the latest CoD installment can’t be tracked, as Xbox and PlayStation haven’t released any data yet.
Treyarch Brought One Modern Warfare Feature to Surprise CoD Fans
Black Ops and Modern Warfare are two of Activision’s extremely different series. Though their gameplay mechanics are similar, with almost zero differences to point out, these two series take different approaches to endings. While the Treyarch series features more than one ending, Infinity Ward never uses multiple endings.
Both approaches have their charm, and players love them.
However, generally, multiple endings increase the replayability of the Black Ops campaigns, but breaking this tradition, the latest installment has only one campaign ending, like the Modern Warfare series.
This is the first time in the history of Black Ops that any installment got a single ending. However, that didn’t impact the game’s popularity, as Treyarch has also brought the newly introduced Omnimovement to Zombies mode as well with great polish, where there’s nothing much to complain about.
