Pocketpair Breaks Palworld Fans’ Hearts With New Announcement on the Future of the Franchise
Palworld fans had been anticipating a different version of the game after the partnership with Sony, but nothing of the sort is in development.
- Palworld's partnership with Sony Music Entertainment triggered multiple rumors and one of them is completely shattered for now.
- Pocketpair declared its plans, which don't include any movie or anime adaptation.
- Additionally, a recent update revealed that the game won't ever be free-to-play, as that was never the plan.
Palworld is one of the biggest hits of this year. This open-world game hugely resembles Nintendo’s exclusive Pokemon series. The difference was that instead of Pokemon, players here captured and tamed different types of cute creatures called Pals. As Pocketpair previously revealed, this game reached an unexpected peak with 25 million copies sold in a month.
Whenever games earn success beyond expectations, players wait for more content, whether it’s a DLC or some kind of movie or anime adaptation of the game. A similar possibility was rumored a few months back regarding Palworld, but all hopes are now gone with the latest news.
Palworld Has No Future Plans to Get an Anime, Pocketpair Revealed
Earlier this year, when Palworld was released, many criticized the game for just being “Pokémon With Guns.” However, soon, the success of the game proved that it’s more than that label, and Pocketpair’s collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment showed that the developer had much bigger plans for the game.
Despite nothing being particularly revealed about the game’s future, the establishment of Palworld Entertainment raised multiple rumors. However, the most circulated among them was that the game would get an anime series soon.
This speculation made fans hyped about experiencing the game in a new way, but their hopes were completely shattered when, in an interview during Tokyo Game Show, the developer expressed, “We are very interested in the possibility of an anime adaptation, but there are no plans at the moment.”
The developer is overwhelmed seeing the success of the game and how it became one of the most played games on Steam with two million concurrent players during its starting days. It is natural that the team won’t shut this IP and will have future plans for it.
Therefore, it didn’t close the possibility of making an anime completely, saying that it is open to explore, and “the world and characters of Palworld would certainly lend themselves well to animation.” Aside from that, the developer revealed the reason behind not making it a free-to-play game.
Palworld Has More Plans for Future Content
During Tokyo Game Show, The Gamer talked about various topics with the game’s community manager, John “Bucky” Buckley. The conversation ranged wide, and regarding whether the team ever considered the game to be a free-to-play one or not, he straightforwardly expressed,
“We never envisioned Palworld as a live-service game because we wanted to provide a rich gameplay experience where players can enjoy the game at their own pace.”
Further, he revealed the company’s goal to support the game in the long run and improve it by analyzing and implementing new content and updates based on feedback from players.
According to him, the primary aim is to “continue evolving and growing the game” without going live-service or shifting to any other route.
The interview clearly reveals that the partnership with Sony Music Entertainment may not result in any anime shortly, but the avenue is still open.
Well, there’s no reason to be disappointed. Gamers will keep receiving more content to make the in-game exploration much more adventurous and enjoyable.
