Valorant’s Explosive Unreal Engine 5 Decision Could Make It Take Over the World of FPS Games
Valorant is shifting to Unreal Engine 5 for future updates, which may be a game changer for Riot Games.
- Riot Games has bigger plans for Valorant, as it is shifting to Unreal Engine 5 for future progression.
- This is not going to bring a massive change to the gameplay or the visuals immediately.
- Additionally, Riot Games is planning a new playable experience to surprise Valorant gamers.
The world of FPS games is too crowded to claim popularity. However, among the few games that immediately come to mind when listening to the term FPS games, Valorant will be one of them. This game is complicated, but in the last few years, Riot Games has made changes to prepare it as one of the strongest competitors to the Counter-Strike series. With the recent changes, Valorant is about to claim the throne.
2024 is a big year for Valorant, as the game expanded its fanbase and started its console journey. After a long run on PC, Riot Games broke the platforming model and went multi-platform a few months ago. However, surprises are not over, as another announcement recently surfaced.
Valorant Is Switching Its Engine to Dominate the World of FPS Games
Despite players sometimes complaining about the game being complex to understand, worldwide, its fanbase is commendable. Even gamers have accepted it well on consoles, and reportedly, it performs better on PS5.
Anyway, after providing players with some unforgettable multiplayer experiences, Riot Games has decided to move on to the next step and switch to Unreal Engine 5, leaving behind Unreal Engine 4.
During Unreal Fest Seattle 2024, Anna Donlon, the producer of Valorant, confirmed this matter, saying,
“We have squeezed literally every ounce of everything we could get out of UE 4, so now we make the move to UE5, and that is not an easy feat when your game is a live service game, but it is necessary for sure.”
Immediately after, she revealed that this switch or upgrade of Unreal Engine won’t impact the gameplay or the appearance of the game at this point.
Despite the fact that the change won’t be felt right away, she expressed there are a lot of developers who are “excited about what UE5 can do for us in the future.”
Going forward, she teased about an upcoming experience that made players speculative about what they were about to get.
Riot Games Is Preparing a New Experience for Valorant Players
Valorant has been on a successful run since June 2020, and the game has around millions of players grinding it. This is not easy to create; only a few games have managed to reach this stage. Moreover, the harder part is maintaining this fanbase.
However, as Anna Donlon’s statement revealed, Riot Games already has plans for that, and developers have been working on a new “playable experience.” She expressed that Riot Games has multiple talented developers who are grateful for what Unreal Engine has allowed them to develop, and further, she mentioned,
“Maybe those devs are working on something I can’t talk about, maybe those devs are thinking about ways to expand the Val universe to new playable experiences.”
Since this statement came to light, players started assuming that Valorant will soon get a dedicated PvE mode to surpass Overwatch, as Overwatch fans have been waiting for a PvE mode for a while.
Anyway, the matter is that previously, Overwatch made similar promises but couldn’t live up to them. Hopefully, Valorant won’t dishearten players with false hopes.
