XDefiant’s Apparent Ubisoft+ Paywall May Not Be the Devs’ Best Idea for a Game Already Struggling to Retain Players
Ubisoft cannot catch a break as far as XDefiant is concerned and its players are having none of it.
Ubisoft’s XDefiant faces another crisis as another baffling decision from the company threatens to diminish a declining player count further. Faced with much criticism regarding implementing a concept that carried a lot of potential when the game first launched, the company’s latest move to improve its standing in the already-crowded first-person shooter genre may not sit well with disgruntled fans.
Although Ubisoft may still have some hope of salvaging the situation regarding its latest decisions, it’s a problem that could have been avoided altogether with a bit of due diligence and careful wording on its part considering the precarious situation that XDefiant is already in.
XDefiant Is Broken and Definitely Needs Fixing
In the wake of a recent update making the DedSec faction from Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs quite overpowered in comparison to the other playable options in the game, the company’s decisions to lock new content behind the paywall of a Ubisoft+ subscription is sure to raise many eyebrows among its player base.
It’s a puzzling change to make considering that the company has been under serious fire for content already in the game, with players complaining of boredom with its maps and modes in addition to technical issues such as its poor netcode and unbalanced gameplay. Ubisoft’s post regarding new content has only served to add fuel to the fire, with several XDefiant players taking to Reddit to express their discontent.
Ubisoft’s Faux Pas May Cost XDefiant Dearly
In the post regarding new content on XDefiant’s official X handle, Ubisoft’s latest attempt to breathe some life into the game has created confusion among players on account of how it framed what a Ubisoft+ subscription would offer them.
Over on the XDefiant subreddit, many players were understandably annoyed by the idea that any new factions added to the game would be locked behind a paywall.
While the player in question did hit the nail on the head with regard to how unlocking new factions would work, Ubisoft’s move to monetize new content in a game that has several outstanding issues does indeed raise questions about its commitment to delivering the experience that XDefiant promised upon its release.
New content in the game is clearly not a priority for fans of Ubisoft’s new tactical shooter. The comment above showcases that many of its players would not bother with new factions considering how existing factions remain unbalanced, creating matches that are heavily one-sided to begin with.
SUGGESTED: XDefiant Needs to Include a FPS Staple Mechanic That It Never Should Have Left Out
Another player was quick to point out how poorly worded Ubisoft’s announcement was, coming out in defense of other players who were quick to criticize what seemed like a greedy move by the company.
It is evident that Ubisoft needs to tackle its XDefiant problem with a careful, methodical approach that avoids errors such as this one in order to get its player base back on board for any further attempts it makes to fix the game.
Until then, XDefiant players will certainly hope that their complaints are heard and Ubisoft takes measures to address them.
