How to Defeat Godfrey, the First Elden Lord/Hoarah Loux, Warrior in Elden Ring
Elden Ring probably provides players with some of the most memorable boss fight experiences. From the beginning of the game, players will face loads of bosses and mini bosses and only a few of them won’t give you a hard time. But most of them are enough powerful to eliminate you a few times if you are not fighting strategically. Godfrey, the First Elden Lord is among them. So, if you are trying to fight the boss but can’t figure out how to defeat Godfrey, this guide will give you all the required information.
Before we dive into the fight, let’s check the location of the boss.
Location of Godfrey, The First Elden Lord in Elden Ring
If you are preparing for the fight, let me tell you that you can find the boss in the Leyndell, Ashen Capital. The Elden Ring world is divided into different realms and as players progress, they will eventually reach Leyndell, Ashen Capital.
You must have encountered Godfrey previously in Leyndell, Royal Capital. But the second encounter will be next to the Elden Throne, near the location where you have fought Morgott, The Omen King. You can travel to the location from the closest Site of Grace which is Queen’s Bedchamber.
Note that he is not an optional boss. So, no matter how you progress, it’s inevitable to face Godfrey. He is one of the last barrios to turn down to become the Elden Lord.
This description is enough to tell you that the fight won’t be easy. Instead, it will be divided into two phases where first players must defeat Godfrey and next they have to take down Hoarah Loux. With this information in mind, let’s begin the preparation.
Steps to Fight Godfrey, the First Elden Lord
If you have fought this boss previously, you must remember the boss’s attacks. This time the attacks won’t change a lot, but the boss is not more prominent and agile in his attacks. Therefore the boss fight will become deadlier. This time the boss will have support from his spirit animal, Lion, though that’s not visible until you deal a significant amount of damage.
As soon as you enter the battle arena, the boss will start attacking you and he has a range of attacks to eliminate you. Most of his attacks include his giant axe. These melee attacks include an uppercut, swings from either side and a twirl over his head leading into a slam. Sometimes, he slams his leg before attacking. However, these attacks give you enough time to dodge them.
Among the most dangerous attacks of the boss, you can easily consider the Fissure. In this attack, the boss slams his axe into the ground and opens a fissure. As soon as it takes the axe out, it will cause the fissure to explode. If you come within the range of the explosion, it will cause deadly damage. So, whenever you notice the move keep your distance and wait for the explosion.

Last, the boss has an AoE attack. In this the boss will lift up his his for a prolonged period and then slam it, creating a shockwave. Don’t stay within its range. Whenever the boss tries to launch this attack roll out of the location. But if you stay close, this will reduce his chance of launching this attack.
While the defense should be your priority, don’t forget to attack. Stay close to the boss whenever you get the chance and deal damage. In this fight attacking the boss from a close range works the best. It is best if you can stay behind him and attack him. We recommend targeting his legs. These are the easiest parts you can attack. Once you deal significant damage, a cutscene will play showing Godfrey’s transformation to the Hoarah Loux.
Hoarah Loux Warrior Fighting Tips
As soon as the transformation is done, the boss will become more powerful and start using a new set of attacks. Among them, the most dangerous one is the Ground Pound. This move is pretty same as you have seen in the previous stage. Here also the boss will lift his leg for an extended period, but instead of slamming it, this time he will slam his fists first and then the leg. This will launch two shockwaves. Roll out as soon as you notice this move.
Next comes the melee attacks. Though Hoarah Loux doesn’t have his axe, he still has a few combos to deal damage. Watch out for his moves as these combos are pretty unpredictable. But these are all easily avoidable attacks. However, the deadliest attack of this phase is the Grapple Move. These attacks caught you in a helpless situation where you can’t avoid damage.
The most common grapple attack that the boss uses is reaching back with his right arm before jumping forward to grab you. As soon as you notice the move run away from his reach. Another grapple attack he uses is the cross-swipe attack. In this attack, he rushes towards you while crossing his arms in an X shape. If he successfully hits you, you will be caught in a grab animation and will get massive damage. Therefore, avoid these by dodging away from Hoarah Loux.
In the battle arena, you can’t hide at all. So the best option for you to avoid incoming attacks is to run around the entire arena. If you stay at a location, it will be easier for the boss to target you. Don’t give him the chance. Additionally, keep the same attack method going on. Target the legs of the boss but don’t stay near him for a long time. Hit him twice or thrice at a time and again get back to the defense mode. This fight will take some time, but if you follow a proper strategy, you can easily defeat the enemy.
That’s all you need to know if you are planning to fight Godfrey, the First Elden Lord, and Hoarah Loux Warrior in Elden Ring. Upon death, the boss will leave 300,000 runes and the Remembrance of Hoarah Loux for the players.
