Xbox Continues to Succeed… on PlayStation, as Sea of Thieves Continues to Set Sail in the Charts
There is no stopping Rare's triumph on the competitor platform.
With the potential to decrease the intensity of the never-ending console wars, Sea of Thieves has proven that players will welcome any quality video game regardless of its platform-exclusive origins. Not only does the title mark the very first time that developer Rare has had one of its games ported over to Sony’s consoles, but it also paved the way for Microsoft’s new strategy to let some of its first-party games be available on the rival platform.
And it looks like the potentially risky decision was the right path for Xbox Game Studios, as the action-adventure game is surpassing some major competition in the unlikeliest of places.
There Are Not Many Titles in the Way of Sea of Thieves on the PlayStation 5
To no one’s surprise, as Rockstar Games gears up to launch the highly anticipated sequel to its more than a decade-old video game, Grand Theft Auto V remains unbeaten on the PlayStation Store June 2024 top downloads charts in the US/Canada and EU regions.

There are not many titles that have managed to overtake the massive open world game, but Rare’s pirate adventure is not that far, as it has left plenty of other huge games behind. In fact, Sea of Thieves has ranked fourth in the US/Canada region and third in Europe, making it a commercially successful port for Xbox Game Studios.
The feat achieved by Sea of Thieves gets even more impressive when one considers the only few video games that are ahead of it. With Shadow of the Erdtree taking center stage in the gaming industry with its release last month, the 2022 Game of the Year award winner Elden Ring was naturally going to be in the top three spots.
And considering the craze that the United States community has for basketball, it is not exactly surprising to see NBA 2K24 in front of Sea of Thieves in that region, adding up to a total of only three titles that are proving to be a competition for Rare’s smash hit on PlayStation.
Helldivers 2, Call of Duty, and More Fall Behind Rare’s Pirate Adventure
To put the success of Sea of Thieves on Sony’s console into more perspective, the action-adventure video game finds itself ahead of gaming behemoths such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and even Helldivers 2 in the United States and Canada.

Over at the European side of things, where Rare’s pirate adventure is one of the top three most downloaded titles, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s very own Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 finds itself significantly lower on the list.
Combined with Sea of Thieves ranking much higher than Ghost of Tsushima and Hogwarts Legacy, the triumph of the Xbox Game Studios title on the PlayStation 5 could make the publisher accelerate its recently begun initiative.
Perhaps the day is not that far when other first-party Xbox games like Starfield finally make their way to Sony’s console.
