Sir Ansbach and Freyja’s Questline shouldn't be ignored. So, let's find out the steps to encounter these NPCs and progress through the questline.
Missions are an inseparable part of the Shadow of the Erdtree, just like they used to be in Elden Ring. As soon as you start exploring the Land of Shadow, players will start getting different quests; mostly, the NPCs they encounter will provide them with these quests. Though skipping optional quests won’t affect the main story, they generally hide interesting activities and rewards that will also be missed. Sir Ansbach and Redmane Freyja’s questline is quite the same.
These two NPCs are bound in a single questline where players must encounter these two NPCs several times and complete the required activities to get the rewards. This questline is simple, but the locations they need to visit are tricky. So, we will give you the steps so you don’t miss anything.
Where to Find Freyja and Sir Ansbach in Shadow of the Erdtree?
To start this questline, players need to first meet Freyja at the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace. This will be found in the very first region of the game, named Gravesite Plain. Once you step into the region, start making your way toward the north to locate the Site of Grace, and Freyja will be found there. Interact with her to initiate her questline.

Next, you have to meet Sir Ansbach. He will be found at the Main Gate Cross Site of Grace. Once you meet Freyja, begin your journey towards the west side, where you will eventually locate the Site of Grace and the NPC. Talk with him to go forward with the next steps.
At this point, ensure that you completely ignore Hornset. He is another NPC in the expansion. Interacting with him and beginning his questline will make Freyja and Sir Ansbach’s questline inaccessible. So, no matter at which point you face this NPC, make sure not to interact with it anyway.

After these two encounters described in the previous section, nothing will happen until you locate them inside Shadow Keep. Accessing Shadow Keep requires some time, as it is the largest dungeon in the DLC with too many bosses and enemies to deal with. However, once you reach the location, keep exploring the dungeon, and you will eventually reach the Seventh Floor Site of Grace, where once again you will bump into Freyja.
After this meeting, the actual tasks for the quests will start, and the first requires them to find the Secret Rite Scroll. This is one of the key items to progress through the questline. To obtain this item, make your way to the Fourth Floor Site of Grace in Shadow Keep. Begin by following a path on the west side of the dungeon, which is going out of the area.
A few seconds later, you will spot a staircase on your left, climb up, and next, you will find a descending staircase. Take it to the bottom. You will spot a platform there, and at the edge of the platform, the Secret Rite Scroll will be found.
Once you have picked up the item, make your way to the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace. From there, start heading north, and you will reach a small room where, again, you will meet Sir Ansbach. Interact with him and give him the Secret Rite Scroll. The NPC will give you a letter that you need to bring to Freyja.
After you get the letter, get back to Freyja at the Seventh Floor Site of Grace, and this NPC will be found there. Pass her the letter and interact with her. Once this interaction ends, check the map to see whether Sir Ansbach’s icon is still on the map. If it’s there, get back to him and report Freyja’s reaction. Otherwise, move on to the next task, which is to beat Messmer, The Impaler.
This fight is tough and will take some time to be completed. However, once you are done with the boss, you are at the end of the dungeon. Next, start traveling toward the Highroad Cross Site of Grace. It will be found in Scadu Altus. At this Site of Grace, you will encounter Leda. Keep interacting with her until she initiates the topic of Sir Ansbach. This may take some time, as this NPC won’t be willing to share this information on the first attempt.
After getting all the information, get back to Shadow Keep and make your way to the room where, previously, you found Sir Ansbach. There you will find two symbols, one will summon Leda to fight against Sir Ansbach, and the second will summon Ansbach to fight Leda. The choice will be yours, but we recommend choosing Ansbach to fight Leda.
Once the fight with Leda ends, it is time to beat the final boss, but before that, you must make your way to the Enir-Ilim, and Sir Ansbach will be found on the top floor. From there, this questline will take you to the fight with the final boss of the expansion, Promised Consort Radahn. You can summon Sir Ansbach for this fight, or you can simply do it yourself. No matter what you choose, you will find Ansbach’s body in one corner of the boss arena after the fight. Loot his body to complete the questline.
This questline will take you to the end of the expansion. The activities are not tough, but interesting for sure. Once you loot Sir Ansbach’s body at the end of the quest, you will get the Wise Man’s Mask, Ansbach’s Attire, Ansbach’s Machettes, Ansbach’s Boots, Obsidian Lamina, and Furious Blade of Ansbach.
However, the more you progress through the game, the more this expansion will present tough opponents to deal with. This will be clearly understood when you face Metyr, Mother of Fingers, or Romina, Saint of the Bud. Anyway, these are not unbeatable enemies, and a little guidance will help you take them down.
