“I’m afraid it might be a PS6 game”: The Wait for Ghost of Tsushima 2 Continues as Fans Think the Worst for PlayStation’s Premium Samurai Experience
PlayStation fans may have a long wait ahead for the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. But it is surely going to be worth the wait.
When Ghost of Tsushima was released back in 2020 on the PlayStation 4 as an exclusive, it quickly took its place among the finest action-adventure titles to involve a samurai. With gorgeous landscapes and a poignant, riveting main story, the game was received very well by critics and players alike.
Sucker Punch Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s take on the works of Akira Kurosawa saw its protagonist Jin Sakai become a legend in his own right, with fans eagerly looking forward to a sequel that continued his adventures.
A PlayStation Exclusive Like No Other
The island of Tsushima serving as their backdrop, Sucker Punch was able to incorporate many important aspects of Japanese traditions and culture, weaving them into Ghost of Tsushima’s core gameplay loop in ways that felt natural to its players.

Jin Sakai’s one-man war against the Mongol invasion of Tsushima brought in a cast of main characters with varying motivations and backstories that soon collided to create action set-pieces that quickly made an impression on players around the world. Fans of the original title continue to eagerly wait for news about a potential sequel on the current-gen PlayStation 5.
Ghost of Tsushima 2 Might Be Farther Away Than Expected
A sequel on the PS5 may be a distant dream, however, if this recent tweet from popular Youtuber MBG is anything to go by. Check it out below.
While there is no official announcement from Sony regarding a PS5 Pro, even at their May 2024 State of Play event, the sequel to Ghost Of Tsushima may have to wait until the PlayStation 6, perhaps even serving as a launch title for the next generation of PlayStation consoles.
Considering that the original PS4 title received a rework for the PS5 with Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut in which it received a graphical and mechanical overhaul alongside the much-anticipated Iki Island expansion, it is very likely that Sony may be considering delaying a sequel until they can add further value to a game that was already near-perfect to begin with.
That decision may not sit well with fans of the original title, considering how many of them express interest in a sequel that’s playable on the PS5 Pro.
While Sucker Punch’s ability to deliver well-polished experiences is never in doubt, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima would have to build meaningfully on the original, taking Jin’s story in a direction that builds on the groundwork laid down in the original title – a challenge that could very well take some time.
It could make sense for Sucker Punch and Sony to delay a sequel in order to maintain the level of quality that they showcased in the first game instead of pushing to release it on the current generation of consoles. It would allow them to utilize the generational leap in graphical capability that the PS6 is sure to bring, at the very least.
Either way, fans of the original title would certainly hope that the long wait was worth it when Ghost of Tsushima 2 eventually shows up on the PlayStation Store.
