Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Furnace Golems in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
Furnace Golems are optional enemies, but without thorough knowledge and proper strategy, they are hard to beat.
Shadow of the Erdtree presents players with multiple interesting features, and bosses are undoubtedly one of them. Irrespective of whether they are major or optional bosses in the game, every boss you face will give you a hard time fighting them. Their unique abilities are bound to overwhelm you for a moment. This tradition will continue when you face Furnace Golems in the Shadow Realm.
Furnace Golems are the earliest bosses to be encountered after stepping into the Land of Shadow. These gigantic enemies are found roaming around in almost every in-game location, but much like the Tree Sentinel from the base game, encountering them doesn’t necessarily mean players need to defeat these enemies. You can avoid them unless you need something from them.
Bosses Be Gone: How to Defeat Furnace Golems in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree
Furnace Golems are optional enemies who won’t hurt you until you are near them. If they spot you, some Golems can start attacking. So, better restrict yourself from going near the Golem, unless you want a Crimson Tear that only a Furnace Golem of a specific location can give you. Well, no matter when you face this enemy, they all have similar attacks and moves. Below, we have elaborated on the strategies and how to prepare for the fight.
Furnace Golems Locations and What They Drop in Shadow of the Erdtree
We have already mentioned that Furnace Golems are found throughout the Shadow Realm, and for the first time, you will encounter them in Scorched Ruins. If you beat the Furnace Golem there, it will reward you with Deflecting Hardtear, increasing damage negation and poise during guarding.
If you find a Furnace Golem in Shadow Keep Army Campsite, you will get Crimsonburst Dried Tear that will restore the HP of your allies over time. Similarly, if you are looking for Bloodsucking Cracked Tear, you need to defeat the Furnace Golem at Ruins of Unte, and for Cerulean-Sapping Cracked Tear, players need to visit the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and fight the Golem there.

Aside from that, whenever you look for Oil-Soaked Tear (Ruins of Unte), Crimson-Sapping Cracked Tear (West Rauh Ancient Ruins), and Viridian Hidden Tear (Ellac River), you have to fight Furnace Golems at the given locations.
Now that you are well aware of the reason to fight them, let’s check out the strengths and weaknesses of the enemy.
How to Beat Furnace Golems in Shadow of the Erdtree
Furnace Golems are gigantic enemies who are visible from quite some distance. Therefore, players can easily spot them from afar and decide whether they should fight them or not. If you decide to fight these enemies, let me tell you, these are kind of easy opponents to deal with once you get used to their movesets. However, before discussing their attacks, let me first tell you that these enemies are weak to fire attacks. So, remember to get weapons that can deal fire damage.
While fighting a Furnace Golem, another thing players should remember is that they can fight from a distance or stay close to the enemy. However, we suggest keeping your distance from them. Furnace Golems have two weak spots: the fire basket on their heads and the leg of the enemy.
Because of its gigantic size, hitting the fire basket is hard if you don’t have ranged attacks. In that case, stay close to the Golem and hit his leg. So, we recommend riding Torrent throughout the battle and using ranged attacks and spells to deal damage to the boss.
Let’s come to the attacks these enemies have. Fortunately, all Golems have the same attacks. Generally, the fight begins with a Flaming Stomp. In this attack, the Golem lifts one foot and aflame it. Next, it will slam the foot on the ground, creating an immediate explosion, followed by a wave of fire. As soon as you see the foot going up, run to create enough distance.
The next attack it has is named Swipe, where the enemy falls on a knee and swipes through a large area. The only way to avoid this attack is to, as soon as he kneels, go behind him. The third attack is a Fire Punch. Here, the enemy will have fire on one hand and punch it on the ground to create a small wave of fire. Once again, you have to get behind the enemy to avoid this attack.
The final attack of the Furnace Golems is the Flaming Jump attack. This is the deadliest attack of the fight, where the Golem aflames both legs and launches itself into the air. Soon, it crashes down, creating an immediate explosion along with a wave of fire. Even pieces of debris fly forward a good distance. As soon as you see the Golem going in the air, start running backward to create enough distance.
These fights are easier than other boss fights. However, if the attacks of the Golems land successfully, players will lose substantial HP. So, if you don’t feel like handling these enemies alone, you can summon a Spirit Ash of your preference. Additionally, try to stay behind the boss most of the time. It will help players avoid most of his attacks and open opportunities to hit his basket on the head. This strategy will be equally effective for every Furnace Golem you encounter.
The Shadow of the Erdtree journey is full of powerful enemies, and as you already know, optional enemies are sometimes more challenging than major ones. The encounters of the Golden Hippopotamus or Commander Gaius will show this fact prominently. Anyway, these are not unbeatable enemies, and a little help with the strategies will make these fights smoother.
The more you progress through the Land of Shadow, the more you will get confused about the locations of weapons and equipment or boss fights.
