The gaming world has been going through rapid changes during the past few years where the previously well-known genres are losing popularity while the new genres are making their places among the top ones. One of the fastest-rising gaming genre that has made surprising progress during the post-covid era is Souls-like games. While these games are gaining popularity gradually, with the release of Elden Ring in 2022, the entire Souls-like genre has revolutionized. Even after two years of release, players have been still grinding through Elden Ring and eagerly waiting for the upcoming DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.

Sources confirm that this DLC will come in February 2024, but in the meantime, you can try some other soul-like games that can heighten your experience. Of course, this list will be a never-ending one, if we try to add all the games, so we will list the top seven games that you shouldn’t miss.

7. Sifu

Sifu

If you are not a hardcore soulslike game fan, you probably haven’t heard of Sifu. Trust me, it is one of the craziest soulslike games where players will go through a tricky storyline. Set in present China, Sifu is a beat ’em up video game where players will play as a child of a martial arts school who seeks revenge for his father’s death. His father was a Sifu and the story follows how the protagonist avenges his father.

The unique part of the game is every time the protagonist dies, he will respawn magically at the same location where he died. Each time he gets resurrected, he will age up, accessing several powerful abilities, but each time he will lose some of his health. If you haven’t yet tried this game, you must try this game once. You will get it on every gaming platform, including Nintendo Switch.

6. The Surge 2

The Surge series is a top action-adventure series and The Surge 2 is a sequel to the 2017 game The Surge. Set in a dystopian future where the selfish nature of humans has brought the world to the edge of extinction, the game’s protagonist will fight to restore the resources and save the world. The central plot of the game is set in Jericho City, which is surrounded by a giant wall which is established to stem the advance of the nanites.

Players can customize their characters and start this game. Though this game is not a renowned soulslike game, players should definitely give it a try.

5. Nioh 2

Nioh 2

Nioh 2 was initially a PlayStation 4 exclusive game, but later the developers changed their mind and launched this game on PlayStation 5 and Windows. Nioh 2 is the sequel to the 2017 game Nioh but received more popularity than its predecessors. The unique part of the game is that players can customize their character which is a Yokai (Spirit).

Set in ancient Japan, around 1500, the storyline of the Nioh 2 continues from the end of its predecessor. Players will control their character named Hide and his journey through the Sengoku Era. As your character is half-human and half-Yokai, you can customize him as you prefer to give a personal touch. The gameplay of the sequel is much more smooth and exciting than the first one. If you haven’t given it a try, we recommend trying it once.

4. Blasphemous 2

Blasphemous 2

If you are an avid gamer, it is impossible not to hear about the Blasphemous series. If you have missed the first game of the series, don’t worry, you can try diving into the sequel, Blasphemous 2. Being a  2D side-scrolling Metroidvania game, Blashphemous 2 takes players to time much later after Wounds of Eventide ends. Players must set out on an adventure to explore a world full of pain and suffering and prevent the rebirth of a curse named “The Miracle.”

SUGGESTED: Rise of the Ronin, Helldivers & Three Other PlayStation Exclusives Worth Breaking the Bank For in 2024

Like the predecessor, Blasphemous 2 also has ups and downs to overcome, including, deadly traps, difficult platform sequences, hostile enemies, and boss fights. As you progress, new puzzles will appear, and solving them will open up new ways. If you are a soulslike game fan, you must not miss Blasphemous 2.

3. Steelrising

Steelrising

Released in the latter part of 2022, Steelrising has attracted the attention of the players for its unique gameplay. But if you haven’t yet tried it, you can dive into the game anytime. Played from a third-person perspective, Steelrising takes players to a world where they experience a different aspect of the French Revolution. In this game, players will encounter some real-life heroes like  Marie Antoinette, Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, Maximilien Robespierre, etc.

The more you progress and defeat enemies, the more you will get Anima Essence that you can use to upgrade your skills. The game has checkpoints scattered throughout the map, where players can rest and upgrade their skills.

2. Remnant 2

Remnant 2

If you are a hardcore Dark Soul game fan, nothing can give you a better experience than Remnant 2. The most interesting part of the gameplay is that players can hold two guns at a time. This unique gunplay feature increased its appeal a lot. Being the sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes, this game takes the excitement a step further by introducing randomly generated events, bosses, and items. These features significantly increase the replayability of the game. Players can enjoy the game solo or experience the dangers with their squad.

1. Lies of P

Lies of P

Lies of P was one of the most anticipated games of 2023. Players had been expecting a lot from this game and this game has fulfilled their expectations to a great extent. Inspired by Carlo Collodi’s novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, the game tells the story of a humanoid protagonist, who travels on foot through the city of Krat, exploring the environment and fighting biomechanical enemies to progress further. The best part of this humanoid protagonist is his mechanical arm which he can use for various purposes. It can be a grappling hook or a flamethrower, based on situations.

SUGGESTED: Resident Evil, Phasmophobia, and 4 More Genre Defining Horror Games

The game has multiple features to understand and the “Lying System” is one of the main among them. Here all the decisions players make during specific passages will affect the events of the game. If you haven’t yet played the game, you must try playing Lies of P.

These are the best soulslike games that players can try while they are waiting for the Elden Ring DLC. Indeed multiple other games can give you a great gameplay experience, but these seven can’t be defeated. So, if you have missed any of these games, try it in the meantime.
